Is this the final straw? 36% of VCSE mental health organisations from our membership reported, in our survey, that they have enough savings to cover just 0 to 3 months of expenses. With financial pressures mounting, many of these vital services are struggling to survive. Demand for mental health care is rising and long-term funding and support are critical to ensure these charities can continue their work. We’re urging the government to make mental health charities exempt from recent Budget changes to safeguard their future. The time to act is now. Let's protect mental health services for those who need them most. #VCSE #MentalHealth #TheFinalStraw

Colligo Labs are delighted to be supporting the Association of Mental Health Providers with their work on the transformation of the mental health social care workforce. https://lnkd.in/ehJqguMy It is yet another example of the importance of geography and the use of Esri's ArcGIS platform to create simple but powerful interactive dashboards. It is only by understanding the local variations that we can design effective policy responses. This type of analysis has to become standard across the social care sector. https://lnkd.in/gcVDJMGX Paul Hainsworth, Hina Choksy Evans Christopher Watson Victoria Buyer Duncan Booth National Care Forum Esri UK

Over 8 million people rely on mental health charities for crucial support, but the sector that's been cracking is now at breaking point. Since the Budget announcements, charities (VCSE), not just in the mental health sector but across health and social care, have said (loudly!) that the changes will be detrimental. They'll be devastating. They'll be catastrophic. How many different ways can we say the same thing? Services cannot be delivered. Organisations will be forced to close. What will the people who rely on the VCSE sector do? Where will they turn? People will turn towards an already pressurised, over-burdened NHS. People with poor mental health and illness will be less safe. And the NHS and other public services will face a crisis. We're urging the government to make mental health charities exempt from the recently announced changes or a cracking sector will finally break. #TheFinalStraw #MentalHealth #VCSE #Budget2024

The Association is preparing a response to the NHS Ten Year Plan consultation, focusing on the importance of a sustainable and diverse VCSE mental health provider sector in improving services and tackling inequalities. We’re also drawing from ongoing dialogue with our members about operational priorities and the increasing demand for services. Join us this Thursday for a Members' Meeting on the consultation’s impact on mental health and the VCSE sector. Raymond Sheehy, CEO of Bridge Support and a member of the Association's board of trustees, will introduce the session. Raymond has recently written on the implications for the VCSE mental health provider sector of the announcements in the Budget in October: https://ow.ly/VYYC50UfJHL #MentalHealth #VCSE #TenYearPlan #SocialCare #MembersMeeting

🚨 New Insights on the Mental Health Social Care Workforce The Association has completed a 3-year study into the transformation of the mental health social care workforce, offering critical insights into workforce trends, service delivery shifts, and care models since 2021. Key Findings: - Staff turnover is 22.6%, with 8.5% vacancy across 42 ICB regions. - 3,000 vacancies in specialist roles (e.g., mental health nursing, occupational therapy). - High turnover (over 40%) in some ICB regions. The Mental Health Social Care Mapping Tools, available on our website, provide vital data to enhance service delivery and guide policy decisions. While challenges remain, like workforce shortages and digital exclusion, these insights are essential for shaping a stronger, more resilient workforce to address that over 1.2 million people are waiting for community-based mental health, learning disability, and autism services. 🔍 Many young people in Wales can't access mental health support. A recent report from Healthcare Inspectorate Wales - HIW - Arolygiaeth Gofal Iechyd Cymru - AGIC, Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) / Arolygiaeth Gofal Cymru (AGC) and Estyn reveals that over half of children aged 11-16 don’t know where to seek help, and support is often unavailable when needed. Key findings include: Prevention: More support is available through schools and online platforms, but some still miss out on timely care. Gaps in Specialist Care: While initial CAMHS assessments are faster, follow-up care remains a challenge, particularly for those with complex needs. Service Access Disparities: Families are frustrated by inconsistent eligibility criteria and difficulties accessing services in Welsh. Crisis Support: Crisis Hubs and Sanctuary Spaces are helpful but often only accessed when people are at breaking point due to high demand. This report calls for better collaboration between services to ensure every young person gets the care and support they need when they need it: https://lnkd.in/eYd8Yihy #MentalHealth #Wales #Collaboration #CYPMH
