Aston Villa will today remember the 21 people killed in the Birmingham pub bombings, on the 50th anniversary of the attacks. 182 people were also injured on November 21st 1974 as bombs exploded in the Mulberry Bush and the Tavern, two pubs in the city centre. To mark the anniversary, Chris Heck, President of Business Operations and Brian Little, Club Ambassador, will this afternoon attend a memorial service at New Street Station, and at half-time during Saturday’s match with Crystal Palace at Villa Park, a minute’s applause will be held while the names of the victims are displayed on the big screens. Family members will also be pitchside during the applause. The club also encourages supporters to take part in a minute's silence at 2pm today (Thursday, November 21). A permanent memorial to the victims will be unveiled in early 2025, as part of the AV150 Legacy Fan Wall. Alongside the city of Birmingham and the wider community, the thoughts of everyone at Aston Villa are with the victims’ families and all those affected by this tragedy.
