About us

Designed by renowned architect Sir Peter Cook, AUB's Innovation Studio is a unique resource for the south. The Innovation Studio operates as a lab for creative technologies, a nucleus for start-ups and regional enterprises, and a hub for industry engagement, with a focus on collaboration, high-skills development, entrepreneurship, research, and prototyping. Set in our state-of-the-art campus, the studio combines flexible workspaces with access to the latest industry-standard digital and physical manufacturing equipment, as well as the expertise and wealth of knowledge from AUB’s students, technical staff and academic practitioners. Through this exceptional space we're proud to offer: – Seven-month Residency Programme to support start-ups – Six-month Associate Programme for local business to test concepts and prototypes – Access to AUB's Lab 4 Creative Technologies and other state-of-the-art resources – Upskilling masterclasses for professionals and businesses – 3D Design and Modelmaking facilities and expertise – Collaborative opportunities between industry and AUB staff and students

We've had a very informative morning, taking a group of manufacturers to see the digital and engineering resources available through the Arts University Bournemouth Innovation Studio. Our visit included looking at: 3D scanning, printing and machining, 2D cutting and engraving, Virtual Reality, Digital fashion & printing, the Materials Library and testing! Thanks to Rob Fanner and the team at the AUB for a very engaging tour. And thanks to the companies who attended including Ammtek Ltd, Goathorn Precision Engineering Ltd and Sonnaz Ltd, who left inspired to adopt some of the viewed technologies within their business. This is part of our Dorset Digital Technology for Productivity Programme with Dorset LEP Business, offering fully funded support to manufacturing businesses based in Dorset. We're thrilled to announce that Arts University Bournemouth and Museum of Design in Plastics (MoDiP) will be launching the new PlastIC Research Centre lab, situated in the Innovation Studio, on Wednesday 29 January 2025, 17.00-19.00 🎉 And we'd love for you to join us – to confirm your attendance, contact the team at plastic@aub.ac.uk. This exciting evening also marks the launch of the new PlastIC Research Centre website, an online hub for sharing updates about research projects with the Heritage sector, Industry materials projects and for our materials testing consultancy work.
