Launched in #veterinarycancerawarenessmonth ...owners reporting and recording symptoms or side-effects of chemotherapy in REAL-TIME on their smart-phones, to better understand individualised cancer care, improve quality of life, and support the pet families. Thanks to our collaborators Dr Jenny Harris and Zoe Clothier (MBPsS) from the University of Surrey, and The Morris Animal Foundation for the funding of this 18 month, 100 family project. #AURAVeterinary #innovationinhealthcare #animalcancer #veterinaryoncology
Study by AURA Veterinary aims to test a smartphone-based tool that enables owners to report their dog’s side effects and quality of life in real time during #chemotherapy treatment. AURA will be inviting eligible clients to take part in the research.

Great update about Buddy, being treated for multicentric lymphoma by the Medical Oncology team.
Veterinary oncology is a rapidly evolving field, with advancements allowing us to improve the standard of care, patient outcomes and quality of life for pets with cancer. When a patient completes their anti-cancer treatment protocol, myself and our medical oncology team celebrate, making a personalised certificate to award their bravery. This is sweet little Buddy, who recently completed a 25-week CHOP protocol for multicentric B-cell lymphoma. He was a nervous chap but was very brave during his visits and learnt to trust us during his 6 months of treatment. On Friday, Buddy completed his protocol and his oncologist, Dr Iain Grant, confirmed he was complete remission. Buddy will return in one months time for a physical examination or sooner if needed.

Izzy is a lovely 11yo FN Havanese presented to us with an aggressive and rapidly progressive pulmonary carcinoma. She was cyanotic on presentation and was given a prognosis of a couple of weeks. She has probably the most advanced metastic lung disease I have treated so far and would not have been given a chance by many. We are glad she rapidly responded to multimodal medical treatment and she is now still enjoying her life after 3 months! AURA Veterinary

This older girl was treated by our cancer surgeons for a progressive swelling in the right hind limb, with associated neurapraxia and reduced stifle and hip flexion. Her CT showed sciatic nerve and vascular compression from a discrete intermuscular lipoma, along with muscle atrophy. Fast forward 4 days, the mass is gone and the patient is home...more mobile and 1.3kg lighter! Intermuscular lipomas are benign tumours found between muscle bellies, often in the caudal thigh between semimembranosus and semitendinosus as in this patient. After careful excision, the prognosis should be excellent. #AURAVeterinary #canineoncology #surgicaloncology #lipoma

At 8am, the Night team hand over to the Day team. Medical oncology, internal medicine, soft tissue and surgical oncology nurses, interns, residents and clinicians attend joint rounds, discuss our in-patients, contribute and support each other and plan the day, with anaesthesia/analgesia clinicians also on hand. A full room is also a great opportunity for teaching! This morning Dr Carolina Armés gave a presentation on clinical cytology of cancer. #AURAVeterinary #collaborativecare #continuingeducation

Small intestinal neoplasia in the dog is typically adenocarcinoma, lymphoma, leiomyosarcoma or mast cell tumour. We treated this dog for an unusual duodenal polypoid sarcoma, bleeding into the small intestine, causing abdominal pain and anorexia. The CT scan shows a near-complete intestinal obstruction. A resection and anastomosis of the small intestine achieved a clean surgical margin (specimen inked). #AURAVeterinary #canineoncology #petcancerawarenessmonth
