⚡Day 1 at the GWEC conference went by in a flash⚡Now onto Day 2, where I will be presenting on #APACGridDynmaics in the Knowledge Theatre at 16:00 KST. Some highlights from Day 1 - 💡 Former Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, kicked off proceedings and highlighted the importance of global collaboration. "No single country or industry, no matter how resourceful, can fight the climate crisis alone." Mr. Moon also touched on the vital role APAC will have to play, given that it is "home to 60% of world's population, produces more than 55% of world's GHGs and is responsible for 45% of world energy supply." 💡Gauri Singh from IRENA gave a fantastic speech on the "Global race to 3xRenewables", highlighting $4.5tn USD (yes, 4.5 trillion) that needs to be spent annually on renewables deployment, grid infrastructure and energy efficiency over the next 30 years. 💡Undersecretary Giovanni Carlo Bacordo from the Department of Energy Philippines spoke about the emergence and importance of smart grids in a country with 7000+ islands.
