𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 Earlier this year, one of AVT Reliability Ireland's valued customers scaled their condition monitoring program with the addition of wireless MSF2 sensors and Bluetooth Gateways site-wide. One of those MSF2 sensors, located on the drive-end of the below tank farm pump began showing abnormal velocity readings, breaching an alarm threshold with levels >11mm/s. Upon spectral analysis via Machine Sentry®, harmonic synchronous peaks of run speed were present. Further analysis indicated that rotating looseness was developing, potentially from coupling wear/looseness. After trending the data and seeing stepped increases in velocity, an action note was raised and the customer was informed to inspect the coupling and check the asset for misalignment. Site staff followed up to confirm that the coupling insert was indeed worn and motor/pump alignment was out of tolerance during inspection. The early fault detection allowed site staff to schedule downtime to replace the coupling insert and carry out a laser alignment to bring the asset back within tolerance. All avoiding costly unplanned downtime and production loss. Following the remedial works, our MSF2 readings showed a reduction in pump velocity levels to less than 1.5mm/s. Just another reason why investing in a robust reliability program has such a positive impact on site reliability. 𝗙𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁-𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 During an onsite routine condition monitoring visit for an AVT Reliability Ireland customer, our Reliability Engineer picked up a high warning alarm while taking vibration readings on shaft support bearings. As seen in the Machine Sentry® software screenshots below, the unusual increase came in the overall velocity trend with a high 1X in the velocity Spectra. Upon further inspection of the support frame, we found one of the top mount nuts had come loose (look carefully at the below video footage to see the movement). The site contact was notified right away and one of the onsite engineers was on hand to torque this back in place. So simple, yet easy to miss. This of course highlights the importance of visual inspections, and once again our Machine Sentry® technology has been so effective at early detection fault-finding. Another happy customer avoiding costly downtime 👍 Are you considering effective condition monitoring for your assets and machinery? 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆® - 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀! Machine Sentry® is a powerful non-invasive system to monitor the condition of your equipment, providing valuable data and insights that can be accessed anywhere from our state-of-the-art online portal. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘺® 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘷𝘪𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘪𝘱𝘦𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬? Here is a great example of this from our Asset Integrity Team. A recent Pipework Vibration (PV) Survey on the Suction and Discharge pipework of a Gas Compressor using AVT Reliability’s Machine Sentry Vibration Monitoring system, identified potentially damaging levels of vibration on a number of Small Bore Pressure and Temperature connections when compared to the Energy Institutes ‘Guidelines for the avoidance of vibration induced fatigue failure in process pipework’ (EI Guidelines) assessment criteria. AVT Reliability recommended the SBC’s were braced back to the main line and were supported in 3 planes as recommended in the EI Guidelines. AVT Reliability has since installed 20 Easy-Brace® pipe supports to the vulnerable SBC’s and subsequent, measurements show that the SBC Operational Vibration levels have decreased significantly and are now in line with the EI Guidelines. 𝗔𝗶𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆𝘀 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 With energy costs at an all-time high, it's more important than ever for maintenance teams to detect and repair compressed air leaks. As energy costs rise, so does the cost of producing compressed air. Companies are more motivated than ever to reduce their carbon footprint, so why should we overlook the energy demand on oil-filled compressors due to undetected air leaks? The AVT Reliability Ireland team recently carried out an air leak survey for a customer in the packaging industry. With any gas (air, oxygen, nitrogen etc.) leak, a turbulent flow paired with high detectable frequency will be produced. This is why we use ultrasound as a method to easily identify these airborne leaks. Upwards of 30 leaks were found and tagged. Leak cost calculations were estimated at £30,000/year. It's safe to say the customer was more than happy with the results due to the potential savings that will be made going forward. One of the many predictive maintenance techniques we use here AVT Reliability® and better yet, we uploaded all the results onto Machine Sentry® for full visibility, traceability, and action-planning. 📸 Laurence Williamson Interested? 𝗜𝗳 𝗮 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀...𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩'𝙨 𝙖 𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙤 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝? This week our AVT Reliability Ireland team carried out a Motion Amplification survey on process critical assets for a valued customer. Not all motion is intentional, undesirable motion can cause serious harm to your assets through vibration-induced fatigue. Visualizing it with the use of machine-grade high-speed cameras is at times the best solution. These cameras use each pixel as an individual displacement sensor to quantify displacement data that can be analyzed as well as visualized. Motion Amplification is a great way to illustrate the motion of our machinery and assets, and where the problems may be occurring across all parties including those in the leadership teams, engineers and operators. By converting data to a video that clearly shows problem areas and faults, structural and maintenance issues can be easily understood across the board. Nice work Mario Kambic & alan langrell.
