𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺! Well done 👏 to the Grangemouth team who recently stepped up to provide a rapid response for a local key customer, overhauling two critical pump assets in just 24 hours. Maintenance works undertaken during a shutdown period at the plant had overrun, leading to a delay in removing both units for planned maintenance. AVTPUMP was asked to step in and overhaul the two individual pumps before the plants scheduled restart in 48 Hours. Utilising spare parts available from the customers stores and our stock with an alteration to the scheduled workflow, the Grangemouth team immediately collected both pumps from the customers site, taking them to the Grangemouth workshop where both units underwent complete overhauls, including testing and repainting, before they were returned to the customers' site ready for installation and use - all in under 24hrs. 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗨𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 Following a long contract with a local pump company, a large manufacturing facility asked if we could look at a repeat bad actor which was extremely costly. The existing arrangement was failing approximately every 2-3 months as a result of the viscous product solidifying on the single cartridge seal faces. The seal was supported with API Plan 32 which under normal circumstances may have been adequate but it was noticed that the water supply was inconsistent due to demand elsewhere in the plant. Identified as a double seal application, we modified the seal housing area on the pump to accommodate an AESSEAL DMSF. It was also evident that the previous repair was of poor standard. The drive end bearing journal had been machined undersize along with a modification to the back plate which was not to the OEM specification. In addition to this, the pump was fitted with the incorrect sight glass. Due to the inconsistencies in the plant water, we decided to offer an SP3 Seal Support System which could then be pressurised manually rather than relying on plant water pressure. In addition to the mechanical seal upgrade, the pump lip seals were also upgraded to Labtecta OP’s. This is a significant improvement on the original pump, seal and seal support system. This arrangement will save our customer a considerable amount of money through reduced downtime and loss of production. 𝗔𝗩𝗧𝗣𝗨𝗠𝗣 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 - 𝘞𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘚𝘋𝘈𝘈250/300 𝘚𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘳 Upon failure, this Weir Uniglide split case pump was collected from the customers site by the AVTPUMP Gloucester team and a full strip down and inspection was carried out to identify the root cause of failure. Once the casing lid was removed the cause of failure was evident - the pump had picked up a few scaffolding putlok couplers that had lodged in the impeller suction vanes. Aside from these foreign objects, the pump was also found to be in a very poor condition. The team commenced a full repair, chemical clean and shot blasting of the pump to restore it to full working order: 👉 New shaft to suit the machined impeller bore 👉 New bronze sleeves were reverse-engineered to suit. 👉 Bronze seal stationary housings were repaired 👉 Case wear ring location diameters horizontally bored to new dimensions. 👉 Bronze impeller machined 👉 Vanes weld repaired back to the original profile. The pump was also fitted with 2 x AESSEAL 2.750” M01SU + S06U mechanical seals. Following the complete rebuild a hydrostatic pressure test was carried out. Gloucestershire U16 girls train twice every 6 weeks and have had 3 match weekends this season sporting their new jerseys. All training and matches have a real family feel and it's great to see women’s / girls rugby being championed.
