🌟 Giving Back 🌟 The Axiom team of Joe Oughtred BA, MCIPS, Daniel Usifoh MSc, MCIPS, Sophie Dryden and Gavin Gillie-Moore came together for our annual volunteer day as we headed down to The Market by Dove House Hospice to help out their incredible retail team for the day. Dove House Hospice is a pillar in the local community and has been caring for people in Hull and the local area for 40 years. As Jonny Bottomley told us, the money from sales at the retail stores helps fund the amazing work the care teams carry out. As volunteers at the retail shop and distribution centre, we saw firsthand everything that happens when you simply 'make a donation' at your local charity shop. It was eye-opening to see everything that the team had to do, with most of them doing it on a volunteer basis. Sophie Dryden said, 'We really enjoyed being part of their community for the day and supporting their amazing work. We believe there is so much importance in using your company volunteer days as they give you a great opportunity to give back to the wider community.' 🌟 What an incredible day at the Great Northern Conference! 🌟 We were proud to sponsor, exhibit at and attend this fantastic event this week. Huge thanks to Jodie Selby, Rebecca Thompson and Mark Harsley, as well as the wonderful team at DoubleTree by Hilton Hull for making it such a success! 🙌 ✨ This year’s conference was extra special as it was hosted right here in our hometown of Hull, showcasing the amazing Humber Region. The discussions about the potential of Humber Green Energy and Carbon Capture & Storage were genuinely inspiring. Our region is ideally located, with strong geography and infrastructure. With the right investment and determination, we will lead the way. 💚 🎤 A highlight for Joe Oughtred BA, MCIPS was hearing from Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng of Great British Energy. His reflection on the green energy transformation - "No more coal!" - reminded us how far we’ve come in the last decade. If we continue on this path, we’ll not only create jobs but also achieve energy independence. 💡 His optimism left us believing that 2030 is not just a goal but an achievable reality. 🚀 🗣️ Another standout moment was hearing from Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, who shared the government’s plans for devolution. We’re excited to see how these plans will unlock opportunities for our region. 💬 The most powerful messages of the day came from young voices, brought to the conference by Future Humber and Nina Stobart from Phillips 66. Year 9 students shared some words of wisdom that really hit home: "It’s in human nature not to like change." "If we don’t do it now, we won’t be here in the future." "Equality, kindness, and fairness - we can’t get anywhere without respect." 🌍 The Global Climate Conversation Continues Dubbed the ‘financial COP,’ the latest global COP29 Azerbaijan has just finished. The main takeaway is an agreement that the 23 developed nations would send $300 billion a year by 2035 to help them adapt and combat the consequences of climate change. However, that figure is far below the $1.3 trillion earlier agreed upon.   However, there are reasons to be hopeful. The EU continues to shape sustainable policies across a wide range of sectors, while the UK is keen to lead from the front, with Keir Starmer re-affirming the country’s Net Zero ambitions at Cop29. And with Cop 30 taking place in Belém, Brazil, the next summit should focus on Amazon conservation and biodiversity at the heart of global climate action. Despite the lack of firm action from COP29, there’s no doubt where the conversation is heading.
