Empowering young people from ethnically diverse and less advantaged communities to move into work, education or business

About us

Babbasa is a Bristol-based social enterprise supporting aspiring young people from disadvantaged communities to pursue their professional ambitions. We directly offer less advantaged young people (16-25) access to skills training programmes, mentors (industry professionals) and opportunities (work experience, employment and enterprise resource). We can also provide similar bespoke packages to educational institutions, corporate organisations and youth service providers for their beneficiaries. We also offer professional development programmes to help businesses and organisations create a more diverse and inclusive workforce and culture. For private and public sector organisations, Babbasa offers a unique opportunity for your staff to volunteer on social action projects, become mentors, invest responsibly as sponsors/funders, support as collaborating partners, or provide expert knowledge as an advisor to our management team. Babbasa's vision is to create a world where all young people are able to realise their employment and enterprise ambitions, irrespective of where they live, their nationality, ethnicity, gender, race, sexuality or faith. #OurCity2030

This is why we do what we do. A profound reflection from Kayjay M., who took part in our Challenge Programme, on how it helped him and his peers to grow personally and professionally. If you know a young person who would benefit from our support, please direct them to https://lnkd.in/eskq79k And if you would like to meet the current cohort of the Challenge Programme, please join us on 7th December at their 'Speak Up' event, which will shine a spotlight on the pressing issue of youth homelessness. https://lnkd.in/eU2eYtJp The Challenge Programme is kindly funded by the The National Lottery Community Fund. #YouthEmpowerment #OurCity2030

As I reflect on my year I am reminded of my experience with Babbasa on The Challenge Programme. The programme impacted me hugely with my professional and personal development. On the programme, we were given multiple opportunities to connect with organisations in the city and learn from industry professionals. I found those experiences extremely useful in building my communication skills and gaining a better understanding of the importance of self-reflection. A part of the programme involved delivering a social action project. Our cohort had a focus on climate action and sustainability in which we delivered ‘Mend Earth: Bridging Communities & Climate Action’ an interactive event aimed at informing/demystifying climate action for young people and making it more accessible to young people from lower-income/marginalised communities. From working in the Business Development team, and pursuing new connections to building and maintaining relationships with industry professionals, I’m proud of my commitment to the role. In this role, I was able to bring my experience of being a full-time business owner (King Visuals), to not only support my team but aid in the creation of the event’s brand identity. I’m thankful for all the attendees of the event and supporting organisations. Additionally, I would like to take a moment to celebrate the relationships formed and the growth of every member of my cohort. All brought a diverse perspective to the programme, which was great to experience. I enjoyed listening to everyone’s views and learning more about the Green Industry through my peers. A special shoutout goes to Elsie, who without her unwavering support and determination we wouldn’t have been able to deliver the event we did. 📸 - Syed

Last week Babbasa and PwC UK hosted an event exploring the unique challenges for social mobility and inclusion in Bristol. PwC’s recent Good Growth for Cities Index ranked Bristol second of 51 UK cities against a set of high-level economic metrics, performing especially well on skills, new businesses and the availability of jobs. However, not everyone in the city benefits equally from this success. A huge thanks to our esteemed panel: David Adair FICRS, Marvin Rees OBE, Poku Pipim Osei FRSA and Professor Judith Squires, who discussed their experiences of inclusivity in Bristol, considering how structures and infrastructures can affect social mobility. We'd also like to thank Empire Fighting Chance, upReach, Inclusive Futures CIC and The Spear Programme for providing staff and young people to chat to attendees about their experiences of social mobility in the city. #OurCity2030

This summer we were pleased to sponsor the Bristol Refugee Festival Our City Community Cup, hosted by West of England Sport Trust (Wesport). This annual football tournament brings together people and communities from across the West of England to connect, share and celebrate the contribution that refugees and asylum seekers make to the city, create a better understanding of why people seek sanctuary, help overcome misconceptions and promote cohesion within the community. https://lnkd.in/epk3nQ8e #OurCity2030

It's been a week now since the sad passing of Dr Paul Stephenson OBE, a man who changed Bristol and Britain for good. We can only take inspiration from him as we continue our work to level the playing field for underrepresented young people. We share this selection of snippets of the #BristolBusBoycott 360 as a tribute to his work. Rest in power Dr Stephenson. https://lnkd.in/eGncw3U4 Julz Davis Curiosity UnLtd
