Empowering young people from ethnically diverse and less advantaged communities to move into work, education or business
About us
Babbasa is a Bristol-based social enterprise supporting aspiring young people from disadvantaged communities to pursue their professional ambitions. We directly offer less advantaged young people (16-25) access to skills training programmes, mentors (industry professionals) and opportunities (work experience, employment and enterprise resource). We can also provide similar bespoke packages to educational institutions, corporate organisations and youth service providers for their beneficiaries. We also offer professional development programmes to help businesses and organisations create a more diverse and inclusive workforce and culture. For private and public sector organisations, Babbasa offers a unique opportunity for your staff to volunteer on social action projects, become mentors, invest responsibly as sponsors/funders, support as collaborating partners, or provide expert knowledge as an advisor to our management team. Babbasa's vision is to create a world where all young people are able to realise their employment and enterprise ambitions, irrespective of where they live, their nationality, ethnicity, gender, race, sexuality or faith. #OurCity2030

⭐️ Meet Our Young People ⭐️ We met with the lovely Wheri, who shared her experiences during the Bristol Creative Industries Internship Programme. The programme is aimed at young people from underrepresented backgrounds wanting to gain more insight and experience in the creative industries. Wheri had a three-month placements at both Armadillo and The Collaborators: Branding & Design where she had the opportunity to be a junior brand designer. She worked on website design, branding and research. The programme has helped Wheri understand the importance of company culture and finding a work environment where you feel comfortable and can thrive. An important lesson to learn! A huge thank you to Bristol Creative Industries for making this happen, to Armadillo and The Collaborators: Branding & Design for creating these opportunities for young people and to Wheri for sharing her story. Bristol is the economic powerhouse of the West of England region and has consistently reported higher than average economic growth over the last 15 years. However, not all of its citizens share in this success. Marked as the 7th worst of 348 districts in England & Wales for black and ethnic minority communities to live and thrive, Bristol has 41 areas in the most deprived 10% in England. #OurCity2030 aims to break this cycle of inequality and deprivation for the next generation, with a bold vision to support 2,030 young people from low-income households in Bristol into career-oriented roles by 2030. Last week, we were invited to Bristol City of Sanctuary's event at the Bristol Beacon, which convened leaders of local businesses and Bristol's arts scene to explore creative and practical ways to offer opportunities for sanctuary seekers in our city. Our workshop explored how businesses can promote an inclusive culture of sanctuary for asylum seekers and inspire greater community engagement and collaboration. It was co-designed by Jasaulla Khan, one of our inspiring Youth Ambassadors, and delivered by Corrie M., our Traiblazer Programme Lead. Thank you to Yasmin Millican for inviting us to this important event and to all the workshop facilitators and inspiring participants who made the day so engaging and inspiring.
