About us
The Bakery is on a mission to make the world a more entrepreneurial place, and over the last 12 years our brilliant team has designed and built a unique model and process, which brings together the world’s biggest corporates with the best entrepreneurs, funds and startups - to truly make innovation happen. We have continually iterated and refined our model to achieve something that no one else has: taking over 50 new technologies to market, which we’ve done by partnering corporates with the best early stage startups. Our client list is second to none, having worked with some of the worlds biggest and best loved brands with everyone from Google to BMW, Unilever to RBS. We have also built a global network of the world's best startups, investors and accelerators along the way. Having immersed ourselves in this ecosystem, we now understand this world of entrepreneurs, investors and corporates like no one else. But this is just the beginning and we've only just started. Our plans and vision for the business is to grow, not just in the U.K. but throughout the world, and to develop our programmes to not just partner corporates and startups together, but to also create and build new businesses. This will see us create a truly transformational business - an agency of the future, powered by a global network of startups, investors and entrepreneurs. As a result, so far, we have been responsible for more than 80 deals, 20 ventures from scratch and 8 tech unicorns.

Another impactful day at Web Summit in Lisbon! We’re thrilled to be here, diving into the dynamic intersections of technology, AI, and leadership transformation. Day 2 put the spotlight on the deepening relationship between humans and machines—a theme driven home by thought leaders and innovators who are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. One of the highlights? Peggy Johnson, CEO of Agility Robotics, showcased "Digit"—a humanoid robot. Digit isn’t just any robot; it’s a breakthrough in Robots as a Service (RaaS), capable of learning and performing complex tasks from organising wardrobes to managing industrial logistics. Peggy demonstrated live how the integration of AI and IoT is paving the way for robots that can create their own workflows—ushering in a new era where robotics support human productivity in ways we once only imagined. Inspiring leadership in transformation also took centre stage, with Sarah Franklin from Lattice and Lidiane Jones from Bumble Inc. They addressed the challenges of leading in times of transformation, emphasising the power of authenticity and transparency, even in vulnerable moments. Lidiane’s insight struck a chord: “Inspiring those around you starts with staying true to who you are". Web Summit continues to emphasise that while AI's potential is vast, careful navigation is key to ensuring sustainable, long-term growth. With so much capital investment flowing into AI, companies must remain mindful of building resilient models that deliver true value. The Bakery, along with Claire Dardignac and Marina Cassino de Almeida, our team on the ground, are thrilled to be a part of these conversations as we explore the latest innovations and connect with pioneers in the field. #WebSummit #TheBakery #Innovation

The Bakery is thrilled to be at Web Summit Lisbon 2024! Last night's Opening Night sparked key conversations that will guide the days ahead: harnessing technology to combat the climate crisis, the future of AI, and fresh avenues to amplify human creativity. The evening’s program marked the return of Web Summit founder Paddy Cosgrave to the opening ceremony, and kicked off with Etosha (Eee-tah-sha) Cave, Co-founder & Chief Science Officer of Twelve. She highlighted the urgency of accelerating energy transition in major economic sectors, reminding us that “the decarbonisation of the transportation industry is a movement that needs urgency and speed.” Following this, Max Tegmark (Future of Life Institute (FLI)) and Thomas Wolf (Hugging Face) tackled the impacts of the new AI wave, and the need for innovative solutions built around safety, ethics, and applicability. To close the night, Pharrell Williams joined Frank Cooper III (CMO of Visa) to explore the intersections between cultural movements and business opportunities. Pharrell inspired with this thought: “The main goal shouldn’t be to just make more money but to spend as much time as possible doing what you love.” We’re here to connect, learn, and continue the conversations around transformative change - reach out to our team on the ground Glaucia Guarcello, PhD., Claire Dardignac and Marina Cassino de Almeida to connect. Exciting days ahead! #WebSummit #Innovation #TheBakery

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting another impactful Innovation Roundtable at the Innovation Roundtable® Summit! We dove into the pressing question of how to create an innovation strategy and operating model that enables true ambidexterity—striking that delicate balance between investing in core improvements and driving disruptive transformation. 💡 Key insights that resonated with our audience: Dedicated Governance and Budgets: Having clear governance structures and distinct budgets can help differentiate core innovation from disruptive initiatives, setting the stage for both to thrive without competing for the same resources. Overcoming Skepticism: Leaders often hesitate to invest in disruptive ideas, citing a lack of “business case” or readiness. Tackling this requires establishing separate criteria and clear ownership for disruptive projects to ensure they receive the support they need. Avoiding the ‘Ivory Tower’ Syndrome: Successful innovation can’t live in a bubble. It’s essential to align governance structures in a way that integrates new ideas smoothly into the broader business, keeping the core engaged and not alienated by change. Looking ahead, it’s clear that Autonomous Innovation Vehicles (AIV) are the way forward for corporates aiming to innovate successfully. As experts in enabling AIV, The Bakery has worked tirelessly in this space, witnessing firsthand how impactful this approach can be. We’re committed to driving results and helping organisations shape the future of innovation. Thanks to everyone who joined us for this lively discussion! If you're curious about how to build an ambidextrous approach to innovation, stay tuned for more updates from The Bakery. #Innovation #Roundtable #Ambidexterity #InnovationStrategy #TheBakery

Last week, The Bakery’s Head of Europe, Claire Dardignac, joined an inspiring panel discussion at Smau, exchanging ideas with industry leaders on what it takes to forge successful corporate-startup collaborations. Thank you to SMAU for the opportunity to connect and collaborate with like-minded innovation experts. 🔑 Key Success Factors for Partnerships A key theme? Success is about more than just tech. Startups excel when they focus on mastering sales skills. Corporates, on the other hand, need a dedicated champion within who knows how to navigate approvals and bring the right people on board. Across the board, transparent communication emerged as essential for ensuring alignment and setting realistic expectations. 🌱 Think Big, Start Small Another point echoed across the panel was the importance of manageable first steps. Our mantra, “Think big, start small,” emphasises the value of beginning with a focused step to validate the partnership’s potential—an approach resonating with both startups and corporates looking to innovate responsibly. ❌ Avoiding Common Failures In innovation, there’s always an element of risk, and some projects may fail despite all the right moves. However, a key predictor of success is alignment with company strategy. Claire’s advice is to continuously ask, “What is this helping the company achieve?”. It was fantastic to share the stage with such knowledgeable voices in the innovation space. Thank you again to Smau and all the panelists for a great discussion, and here’s to driving purposeful innovation forward together. #Innovation #CorporateStartups #TheBakery #SMAU

Big AI disappointment is coming. We all know it. Why? Because while companies are spending crazy amounts on #AI in a FOMO frenzy, they have no idea how to actually use it in their business. According to a recent survey, 45% of workers say they have no idea how to achieve the AI-powered productivity gains their bosses want, and 77% say that using the AI tools has decreased their productivity and added to their workload. Here's what companies should be doing instead: https://lnkd.in/eaeB7Uax #investment #technology #generativeAI
