We are pleased to have contributed to the government's Curriculum and Assessment Review, joining others in the cultural sector to advocate for the importance of arts education.   Every year, thousands of young people engage with us through initiatives such as Rambert Grades – our Ofqual-accredited dance qualification, and Rambert Classroom, which provides innovative digital resources for schools. We are honoured to be at the heart of GCSE and A-Level dance education, offering support for both students and teachers. However the decline in GCSE and A-Level Dance (27% and 14% respectively since 2020) highlights the growing barriers to accessing creative education.   While dance thrives outside of schools, with 29% of girls participation (Sport England), in-school opportunities remain limited. Undervaluing creativity in the curriculum devalues it in society, impacting the next generation.   We look forward to working further with the Department for Education, exam board AQA and the dance and cultural sector to ensure equitable access to creative opportunities shaped by industry expertise. Yesterday Rambert’s Director of Community Partnerships, Daniel F., delivered a guest lecture for MA students of the Education in Arts and Cultural Settings at King's College London on Rambert’s participation and community programme.   Daniel focused on how the Future Movement youth creativity programme tackles underrepresentation in the cultural sector by supporting young people in Lambeth, Rochdale, Mansfield and Liverpool to build self-efficacy, gain deeper awareness of creative career paths and develop project management skills.   He also discussed the Early Moves project, which uses dance to support early childhood development by embedding movement classes into nurseries across Greater Manchester, activating the region’s Creative Health Strategy.   These projects showcase the power of the arts to address systemic challenges – fostering inclusion, equity, physical health and wellbeing. In the discussion, students asked insightful questions and shared ideas as to what projects they would create to make a fairer society.
