It's normal for year-end to bring highs *and* lows. So try to: 💚 Focus on what you’ve achieved, not what’s left undone 💚 Let yourself feel both proud and tired 💚 Celebrate your organisation’s impact; acknowledge the lives your charity has touched this year, not just the hours you’ve worked 💚 Step away from the noise - turn off email notifications! 💚 Spend quality time with yourself/loved ones (These things will recharge your energy far more than checking off another task.) #MentalHealth #CharityWork

What a week it's been! Yesterday, I had the privilege of sharing the (virtual) stage with the incredibly generous Helen Armstrong, who, in my experience, truly embodies the philosophy of 'there’s more than enough for everyone.' Together, we successfully delivered our session at the 2024 ICB UK (Institute of Certified Bookkeepers) Virtual Summit, sharing key insights with our fellow #icbbookkeepers, on working with charities. I’ll admit, I almost let fear get the better of me and chickened out, but I’m so glad I pushed through. It was an enriching experience, and I’m grateful to ICB UK (Institute of Certified Bookkeepers) for the opportunity. A huge thank you to all 54 bookkeepers who were able to join us live - you made it all the more worthwhile! Here’s to continued growth, shared knowledge, and stepping outside of our comfort zones!

The recent Charity Commission investigation into Fashion for Relief revealed serious governance issues, leading to Naomi Campbell’s disqualification as a trustee and from holding senior management post in a charity for five years. Some key points from the inquiry include: ▶️ Unapproved Trustee Payments: €290,000 paid to a trustee for consultancy work—without approval from the charity’s governing document. ▶️ Lack of Documentation: No paperwork to support high-cost expenses like flights and hotel stays. ▶️ Transparency Issues: No proof of reimbursement for unapproved Trustee expenses. ▶️ Weak Financial Oversight: Trustees couldn’t explain some past transactions. Some lessons from the case study: ▶️ #Nonprofits must ensure that every expense is properly documented and justified. ▶️ With Trusteeship comes responsibilities beyond attending meetings ▶️ Transparency and strong financial controls are essential for maintaining trust with donors and staying compliant with regulations. 🎧 Click below to listen to the The Nonprofit Bookkeeper's full analysis of the inquiry. #CharityGovernance #NonprofitFinance #TrusteePayments #FinancialAccountability #CharityLeadership
