We're thrilled to see Philip A Steiner FIH recognised as #HotelierOfTheWeek
Introducing this week’s #HotelierOfTheWeek ! 🥂 Philip A Steiner FIH is General Manager of Bankside Hotel London. Philip embarked on his journey after studying Hospitality Management at the International Hotel School in The Hague. Since then, Philip has worked with Hilton, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. and Cycas Hospitality, leading to his current role at Bankside Hotel London. Reflecting on his career, Philip emphasised his love for blending his hospitality experience with his passion for art and the London cultural scene. He revealed, “Our Maker’s Studio is a creative space that provides a home to emerging artists, located next to our restaurant Art Yard Bar & Kitchen, and guests and passers-by are encouraged to pop in and watch artists practice their creative expertise. Last year, we also introduced a rotating art gallery in our White Box exhibition space, with our current exhibition, Nature's Imprint: A Journey Through Time and Art, reflecting our passion and commitment to art and sustainability.” Offering advice to those aspiring to grow in the industry, Philip said, “For me, true happiness comes from finding a company or people you enjoy working with—those who makes the job feel fulfilling. If you’re not experiencing that joy, don’t settle. Pursue what you love, and the rest will follow. In my career, I have never been afraid of making a radical change and stepping sideways in order to move forward in the long run. It is those decisions, often supported by mentors or those who support me, that have led me to love what I do every day. At Bankside we have adopted this philosophy and call it #WhereYouBelong.” One memory that profoundly shaped Philip’s career was during his first role, which solidified his passion for this field. He revealed, “I saw my General Manager carefully rearranging flowers in vases until they were perfectly aligned and I thought this is the industry for me. At Bankside, I encourage my team on a daily basis to create "brilliant memories" for guests through high-quality, personalised service, ensuring every stay exceeds expectations and guests long to return. In the recent year we have developed this into a training programme called Bankside Brilliance. It allows me and the team to pass on this passion for the industry to those who are new to hospitality.” Finishing with the pinnacle of his career, Philip said, “Bankside Hotel climbing in the top 10 on Tripadvisor for Hotels in London. We know that guests are now actively seeking hotels that not only encapsulate the spirit of their surroundings but also cultivate a deep sense of community engagement and distinctiveness in the guest experience they offer. At Bankside, this principle resonates profoundly with the dynamic and artistic ambiance of the South Bank while maintaining our uniqueness. Every guest is treated as an individual, ensuring no two experiences are ever the same – I'm so proud of my team and the reviews speak for themselves!”

We are excited to introduce our new artist-in-residence, Ewa Podles. Inspired by classic female portraiture and abstract art, Ewa plans to explore these two practices further during her residency. She will work on a project called ‘Between’ that merges portraiture with abstraction to create a balance between the real and the undefined. Ewa will be in residence in the Art Yard Studio from 16 December 2024 to 2 March 2025. https://lnkd.in/eHx422n4 #artistinresidence #artist #londonartscene #londonart Ewa Podles Contemporary Collective

Last Thursday, we had a fantastic evening in our Art Yard Makers Studio to celebrate Contemporary Collective Josie Clouting’s Artist Residency. For the past three months, Josie has explored how we connect to the landscape and how and why we value wild places. She shares, “One of the ways in which I approached this was to ask people to submit images of their favourite wild places, which I then used as references for small drawings and paintings. I had a wonderful response, and I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who shared their images, words and experiences of their favourite landscapes. I’ve had some really interesting conversations with visitors, artists, and hotel guests. It seems that so much of what we value in the landscape is linked to our memories with people we love, places we grew up or regularly visited on holiday, or a park local to home. I’ve no doubt that your images and words will continue to influence my work in the future.” A special thanks to Josie for all the energy and time she poured into this residency. The collection looked incredible in the space, and it was amazing to see how much she created and achieved in such a short period. Our honey is officially the second-best honey in London! Last month, at the 2024 National Honey Show, our honey was awarded 2nd place in the "Honey Inside The M25" category. We're pleased to report that our rooftop bees have remained in good health throughout the year and that we have another decent surplus of delicious honey—hopefully, that will be award-winning, too! Thanks to Bermondsey Street Bees for helping us take care of our Bees #bees #beekeeping
