The Climate Crisis affects every place on the planet in a unique way, one way to respond to these challenges from the ground up is to put money into the hands of organisations working to create real positive impact and maximising benefits for local communities. Since 2010 BWCE has built more than 14.5MW of renewable energy generation (the equivalent annual demand of 5000 homes) through standalone solar installations and by installing solar panels on schools and community buildings, reducing their fuel bills, and carbon emissions. As a community benefit society our structure ensures we reinvest any surplus into the BWCE Fund (430,000 to date) and have awarded grants to 111 community projects reducing carbon, waste and supporting people at risk of fuel poverty since 2015. To increase our impact, we need to raise £1 million to build out our pipeline of local schools waiting for a solar installation, offering 5.5% interest a year with a minimum investment term of 5 years. The climate challenge can seem bigger than ever, support us if you can and be reassured your investment will work as hard as the team @BWCE to create a positive impact for local communities and the planet at this crucial time. We need to raise up to £1 million through our Bond Offer to install solar on a further pipeline of school rooftops, offering 5.5% interest a year, minimum investment term of 5 years with @abundanceinvestment. By selling the solar electricity back to the school or building owner at a reduced rate they save on fuel bills and carbon, with our surplus (after business costs and investor interest payments) reinvested into an independent community fund (£430,00 since 2015) which to date has supported 111 local community projects. We’ve grown from a small voluntary organisation into one of the largest community energy businesses in the country and believe in the importance of community energy and the power it has to address climate change. Can you invest and support us to increase our impact at this critical time for our planet? Does your home feel cold and would you like it to be cosier and saving more energy? Come to our joint Bath & West Community Energy and Good Energy "Clean Living" Event on Wednesday 5th February from 10-11:30am at the Huntsman Pub. We'll be exploring how to make our homes more healthy as an event in the Rebalance Festival in Bath over coffee and pastries. Use the link here to book onto this free event: https://lnkd.in/emKiqfVy We'll have experts on hand to discuss all kinds of retrofit options, from low key to the more advance. And we'll have case studies available to share, demonstrating different ages and types of homes and the work that has been done. A hugely popular area to discuss is windows! Draughty windows that rattle Here's an example of one of our case studies, featuring a Grade 2 listed 1870s, 2 storey detached Victorian villa retains many of its original features. Motivated by the need to reduce energy losses, the owners sought to improve the thermal performance of the existing sash windows. In early 2023, south-west-based company Mitchell & Dickinson were employed to restore the original windows, fitting draught excluders and secondary glazing. Their wealth of experience in working with historic buildings helped to satisfy the planning requirements of this listed building in a conservation area. With work starting in early June 2023 a total of 11 original sash windows were fully restored within a 3-week period. The fully reversible Cosy Glazing secondary glazing system was installed to 7 of the refurbished existing windows. Utilizing magnetic strips, the system can be easily removed for cleaning whilst reducing heat loss over single pane glass by 70%, without significantly altering the integrity and fabric of the original window.
