What is the Green Impact Fund? A £1.8 million capital grant scheme funded by the UK government, designed to support local businesses and community organisations in Devon and Torbay. This initiative aims to help you implement decarbonisation measures, reduce energy use, and lower your carbon footprint for a more sustainable future. Funding Details: • Grants available: £5,000 to £49,999 • Funding coverage: - Up to 80% for revenue-generating organizations - Up to 100% for non-profit organizations • Deadline for applications: 29th November 2024 • Funds must be utilized by: 31st March 2025 Eligible Decarbonisation Projects: • LED Lighting Installation: Upgrade to energy-efficient lighting to cut electricity costs. • Solar Panels: Generate renewable energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. • Electric Vehicle Chargers: Support sustainable transportation with EV charging stations. • Heat Pumps: Improve energy efficiency and lower emissions with electric heating solutions. • Energy Efficiency Improvements: Conduct audits and implement measures to enhance overall efficiency. We are excited to announce that our very own Steve Bolt, Director at BCR Associates, is taking part in Sidmouth College’s “Introduction to Work Experience” program, engaging with Year 9, 10, and 11 students. Our first session on October 2nd was a fantastic start, where we introduced Year 10 students to the concept of work experience, helping them prepare for their placements in July 2025. During the session, we had a fun and interactive “What’s My Line?” activity. Students guessed our professions based on brief introductions, and then we shared insights about our real jobs and the pathways to enter these careers. It was inspiring to see their curiosity and enthusiasm! We all shared our experiences and answered students’ questions about what to expect in the workplace. This week, we participated in a Careers Roundtable event with Year 9 students, where we led active learning sessions on various career opportunities. Steve shared examples of managing educational institutions like the Ted Wragg Trust, discussing the costs and calculating the carbon footprint. He had the pleasure of joining a diverse group of professionals, including Alex McLachlan & Sean Priestley from RBC Brewin Dolphin, Troy Abraham from Coreus Group, Luke Moss from Exeter College, James Bishop from CMgr, Kevin Clarke from Devon and Cornwall Police, Irene Breckenridge from The Mare and Foal Sanctuary, and Ben and Sophie from Kendall Kingscott Ltd. Looking ahead, we are excited about the upcoming Mock Interview Day for Year 11 students from December 2nd to 5th. This will be a valuable opportunity for students to practice their interview skills in a supportive environment and receive constructive feedback from employers. It’s been a rewarding experience to see students learn about essential skills, employer expectations, and potential career paths.
