I opened my LinkedIn account upon my arrival in the United Kingdom to assume my post as Ambassador of Peru to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in May 2024.   I chose to do so because I view LinkedIn as a highly productive platform for exchanging ideas, initiatives and actions in the economic sphere, broadly conceived, and closely aligned with the work carried out by Embassies around the world.   After seven months of intense work, I am now looking ahead to 2025 with the intention of becoming more active on this platform. To achieve this, we will launch an official account for the Embassy of Peru to keep you informed, while I will use my personal account to share and comment on many valuable initiatives I encounter.   To mark the beginning of this personal commitment, I can think of no better occasion to share with you that on 5 December I had the distinct honor of presenting my credentials to His Majesty King Charles III.  While for many this may seem like a purely formal ceremony, it fundamentally symbolizes the commitment of two nations - Peru and the United Kingdom - to continue strengthening a relationship grounded in robust political, economic and cultural ties.   I am excited to embark on a productive dialogue in the coming year and look forward to engaging with all of you. All the best in 2025 to you all! ✨“The Kingdom of the Netherlands: Bridging Borders and Building Connections”✨It was insightful to attend the NBCC Flying Start UK event at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the United Kingdom. H.E. Paul Huijts, Ambassador to the UK, highlighted the £150 billion trade and investment ties between the UK and the Netherlands. He emphasised the embassy’s role in supporting businesses entering the UK through connections, collaboration with 12 honorary consuls, and the Netherlands Business Support Office Manchester. Key sectors discussed included life sciences, sustainable energy, and AI, underscoring the importance of innovation and sustainability in fostering long-term business relations. A NEW CHAPTER FOR UK-EU RELATIONS: INAUGURAL MEETING OF THE APPG ON EUROPE This evening, I had the privilege of attending the inaugural meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Europe, a significant initiative aimed at fostering constructive dialogue and strengthening the United Kingdom’s relationship with Europe, including the European Union and its member states. The event featured insightful contributions from distinguished speakers: Lord Kirkhope of Harrogate, Dr Rosena Allin-Khan MP, EU Ambassador Pedro Serrano, and Stephen Doughty MP. They highlighted the importance of cross-party collaboration, the need for a strategic and forward-looking approach to UK-Europe relations, and the vital role of parliamentary engagement in addressing shared challenges, strengthening partnerships, and building mutual prosperity. The establishment of this APPG comes at a pivotal moment. Recent developments signal a mutual desire to reset and enhance UK-EU relations. In October 2024, Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen committed to strengthening ties between the UK and the EU, paving the way for regular summits at the leader level, with the first scheduled for early 2025. This renewed commitment provides a valuable opportunity to address pressing issues, including trade, security, energy cooperation, and climate action. Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves has also reiterated the UK’s focus on fostering a “business-like relationship” with the EU, recognising that international partnerships are critical to driving economic growth and securing the UK’s place as a competitive and collaborative global partner. The APPG on Europe is set to become a vital cross-party platform, bringing together parliamentarians, diplomats, and stakeholders to develop pragmatic recommendations for enhancing cooperation in key areas of mutual interest. Issues such as trade, research, education, and security are central to these discussions, ensuring they receive the attention they deserve in Parliament. Tonight’s meeting provided a strong foundation for future collaboration. There is clear momentum and a shared commitment to building a more constructive and prosperous relationship between the UK and Europe – one rooted in mutual interests, common values, and a shared vision for addressing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. ✨Amplifying the African Voice in UK Politics: A New Era of Collaborative Partnership✨Last night at the UK Houses of Parliament in Westminster, the Labour African Network (LAN) brought together a dynamic group of leaders to redefine UK-Africa relations. The Rt Hon Anneliese Dodds MP (Minister of State for Development) and Hamish Falconer MP (Minister for the Middle East and North Africa) joined Lord Collins (Minister for Africa), Lord Paul Boateng, and a broad range of Peers, MPs, Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Steven Gray OBE, Veronica B., and other key influencers. I am grateful to Mr Ambe and the LAN team for the invitation. This gathering marked a pivotal shift, placing African voices at the centre of UK policy discussions. Speakers championed Africa’s vast potential, emphasising its youth, talent, and leadership rather than just its natural resources. The dialogue highlighted building more respectful, balanced partnerships, recognising that Africa’s economic aspirations are equally central to the conversation. Concrete examples—from investment in critical minerals to health and education cooperation—showcased a commitment to forging sustainable, inclusive growth. Representatives underscored the importance of listening to Africa’s priorities, fostering two-way collaboration rather than imposing top-down strategies. The diaspora community emerged as a vital catalyst, bridging cultural and commercial divides and connecting policy to lived realities. Lord Collins’ Keynote Speech underscored the critical need for genuine partnership—one that respects Africa’s agenda and amplifies its voice. He highlighted projects fostering local employment, responsible resource use, and improved connectivity, as well as the importance of engaging Africa’s young population. By actively listening, co-creating solutions, and embracing Africa’s dynamism, Lord Collins positioned this moment as the start of a more equitable, impactful era for UK-Africa relations. The evening provided an incredible opportunity to connect with industry leaders in a historic and elegant setting. I also had the privilege of delivering a speech during the event. In my remarks, I emphasised that collaboration, networking, and international trade are key drivers of business success in today’s interconnected world. Networking builds relationships that open doors to opportunities, partnerships, and new markets, while collaboration fosters innovation and mutual growth. I highlighted how geopolitics significantly impacts trade—shaping risks, creating opportunities, and influencing global dynamics. To navigate challenges effectively, I encouraged businesses to strengthen their networks, embrace collaboration, and stay informed about global trends. By leveraging relationships, adapting to changing geopolitical landscapes, and focusing on shared success, I shared my belief that businesses can innovate, grow, and thrive in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Together, I concluded, we can achieve greater outcomes.
