  • There was a phenomenal response to our announcement earlier this week about plans for a £100 million development at Giant's Park in north Belfast. The announcement followed the signing of an agreement with Giant’s Park Belfast Limited to allow them to develop 250 acres within the former landfill site on Dargan Road – the largest development site in the city. In this video, Lord Mayor Micky Murray and the developer behind the plans describe the first phase of the project - a 160-acre adventure park and nature sanctuary. #GiantsPark #Regeneration #Investment #AdventurePark #NatureReserve

  • It's so good to see the businesses and organisations we've supported through our Vacant to Vibrant initiative thrive. Watch this short video with Steven from Bodega Bagels to find out how our funding helped him set up his business on Royal Avenue. If you're interested in bringing a vacant city centre unit back to life, get in touch without delay, before the funding is fully allocated. And check out https://lnkd.in/g29XAyea for details of how you could apply for funding elsewhere in the city - there's £500k of support available. #Regeneration #Funding

  • Today we're delighted to announce exciting plans for a giant-themed urban adventure park and nature sanctuary as part of a £100 million development at Giant's Park in north Belfast. We have signed an agreement with Giant’s Park Belfast Limited to allow them to develop 250 acres within the former landfill site on Dargan Road – the largest development site in the city. The project is expected to create hundreds of jobs during construction and over 1,000 permanent jobs when completed. The initial phase of the project will see a 160-acre portion of the site transformed into the new adventure park and nature sanctuary, with construction potentially getting underway as early as winter 2025, subject to planning permission. Plans for mixed use, distribution and logistics hubs and other commercial zones on the remaining 90 acres of the site are currently being finalised, with more details to be announced in due course. • On #HeritageTreasures Day, we're pleased to announce that work has started on a £6.5 million redevelopment of Strand Arts Centre The project, supported by our council, together with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the UK Government and corporate and public sponsorship, will preserve and enhance the cherished cinema and create a new home for the arts in east Belfast. Original architectural features of the building, including its famous façade, will be retained, together with the addition of state-of-the-art cinema facilities, a licensed café, creative learning studios, new performance spaces and an interactive exhibition focusing on the Strand’s unique history. Following on from our recent work to bring other heritage buildings such as Templemore Baths and St Comgall's back to life, we're looking forward to getting started on this latest project and delivering another amazing asset for the local community and future generations of visitors to enjoy. #Heritage #Restoration #Redevelopment #EastBelfast #Belfast #HeritageNI

  • It was great to meet this week with those organisations who have been successful in applying for support via our Social Economy Incentive Fund. This fund supports new or early stage social economy or co-operative businesses who are keen to grow their venture further while supporting the wider community. The grants, of between £1,000 and £10,000, will be used to help with things like equipment, skills development, set-up costs and specialist support. The financing will support organisations such as Age NI to purchase VR headsets and software for their new dementia training programme and Orchardville Works to create a website for their new product range. Our Club, Our Community will use their funding to train new coaches to deliver sport and mental health programmes in schools while Wee Chicks will purchase bespoke equipment for children with sensory processing challenges. Looking forward to seeing all the projects coming together during 2025! #SocialEconomyFund #SocialEconomy #BelfastBusiness #Belfast
