About us
BFBS is a military charity and broadcaster that informs, entertains, connects and champions the UK Armed Forces. We bring entertainment, news, sport and information services to the military, their families and veterans worldwide. We spread happiness and keep people in touch, building morale among the military overseas – offering them a valuable connection to life back home, and a way to share experiences and build communities. We are also the home of military content, championing the military by keeping their activities in the public eye on our Forces digital channels and on our national TV channel. And our commercial services, which provide income for our charity, span training, digital and creative services and pioneering technology solutions that enable media and communication in the hardest to reach places. BFBS is a modern, vibrant and forward-thinking organisation that attracts talented people to join us and help us develop. We strive to create a diverse and collaborative working environment where everyone can contribute, learn and be themselves. We have a number of networks run by our community of colleagues, including Wellbeing, and Diversity and Inclusion.

This week, the UK Ministry of Defence launched esports across the British Army, Royal Air Force (RAF) and Royal Navy at an event showcasing the importance of gaming in our armed forces.

🚚🍦 Exciting news from BFBS HQ today! We had the pleasure of welcoming our brand-new, environmentally-friendly ice cream van, now equipped with solar panels and electric power! 🌱🔋 Since 2010, our beloved Operation Ice Cream van has covered over 300,000 miles and served up around 250,000 ice creams – spreading countless smiles! 😊🍨 A special shout-out to the driver, Chris Pratt, who’s been with the company since 1986 and has been the face behind the wheel of the ice cream van for the last 14 years. Here’s to many more years of joy, community, and, of course, delicious ice creams! #BFBS #IceCreamVan #Sustainability #EcoFriendly

A huge pleasure to spend the evening with our friends at BT Media and Broadcast. Though we missed out on a trophy it was fabulous to celebrate our collaboration and the achievements of our tech, project, and content teams delivering media content to our forces and their families based overseas. Thank you #BTIA2024 for a super event, and well done to all the winners!
A great evening at the Broadcast Tech awards with BFBS celebrating our joint shortlisting for the 'Tech Team of the Year'. Although we didn't win its great recognition for the brilliant collaboration between our two organisations and we're very proud of our teams and the work they do to support UK Armed Forces overseas. Congratulations to The Collectv and to all the other winners on the night! Today we’re attending the #RadTechCon, talking to industry peers about the benefits and challenges of moving to cloud-based encoding, multiplexing & distribution platform. With an ever-changing audience that reaches from the UK to Canada, Bahrain and the Falkland Islands to name a few, BFBS has adapted to provide a trusted distribution platform that serves this wide footprint. At BFBS, we’re passionate about championing diversity in tech roles. A great example of this is our incredible Broadcast Engineer, Vanessa Tarrier, who joined our Principal Engineer, Mark Edgar on stage earlier today to share her expertise. Reflecting on her talk Vanessa said “It was fantastic to have the opportunity to share such an impressive project with a wider audience. As a female engineer at a technology event, it demonstrates how far we still have to go to achieve that balance”. #RadTechCon #Technology #WomenInTech #Radio #Broadcasting
