It was a pleasure to be invited to the launch event of The Boy with a Leg Named Brian: Memoirs by Pete McKee exhibition at Sheffield Museums' Weston Park Museum. One of Sheffield’s best-loved artists, Pete McKee brand new and largest solo exhibition to date takes you on a nostalgia-filled journey through his 1970’s childhood. This playful and evocative exhibition was thoroughly enjoyed by the NVM team as we explored Pete’s memories captured in a new series of paintings, prints and sculptures. The exhibition is also complemented by displays celebrating the clothes, music and popular culture of the period. We’re also very proud to have played a small part in this display which features our 1978 Space Invaders arcade cabinet which will be playable throughout the exhibition's run. The McKee and Sheffield Museums teams have done a brilliant job! The exhibition runs for a year, until 2nd November 2025. Be sure to go along to explore this brilliantly moving and incredibly funny interactive exhibition. The National Videogame Museum was taking over on Friday 22nd November as we took part in Kids in Museums Takeover Day 2024. Following the brilliant success of taking part in last year's Takeover Day, we invited three SEND schools, Holgate Meadows School, Seven Hills School and Talbot School to become curators for the day. Coinciding with Discover Creative Careers Week and with the support and funding from Create Sheffield, the pupils took part in our ‘Museum Maker’ workshops that enabled them to explore the Museum, highlight their favourite objects and pitch ideas for new games and exhibits. Gaining an insight into how to create a Museum like ours, they generated some fantastic ideas: 🦔 A real life Sonic obstacle course 🕹 A playable Nintendo Wii exhibit 📱 An exhibition of mobile and handheld games 👻 An exhibit of scary games 🎮 An introduction of games like The Legend of Zelda, Just Dance, Roblox and Pokémon. Some of those mentioned (we can't say just yet) are in the pipeline to be introduced in the future 👀 It's been another brilliant day, and a pleasure to hand over curation duties to three excellent schools. #TakeoverDay #TakeoverDay2024 #KidsInMuseums #DiscoverCreativeCareersWeek #Museums #Exhibitions #Exhibit

It was a pleasure to welcome Charlene Taylor and Alex Habgood from Rebellion’s Archive Team last week to discuss archiving and collections management with Ann Wain and John O'Shea. The day also saw a tour of the NVM and object handling activities with some of our popular objects - including Game Boy dissection. We'd also like to thank them for the the amazing donation of sealed videogames to add to our 5000+ strong collection. We very much look forward to continuing our collaboration with Rebellion. #Museum #Archive #Collections #CollectionsManagement

We are delighted to announce our Head of Learning, Stacey Jubb, won the Community Player Award at last night’s Game Republic awards 2024. An award that is richly deserved, it highlights Stacey’s hard work and dedication and is a brilliant recognition of our whole Learning Team. Connecting communities at all levels with videogame culture through the Museum’s educational programmes, learning activities and outreach projects, Stacey continually goes above and beyond in her role working tirelessly to ensure videogames are for everyone. Forever. Keith Stuart, games journalist and former Games Editor for The Guardian and the main judge of the awards, said of our winner, “that by linking game studios with students from disadvantaged backgrounds and by bringing games into communities throughout the area, Stacey's work has shown in very practical ways how vital and life-changing videogames can be” We would also like to congratulate all the winners and everyone who was nominated for an award in a fantastic event that celebrated the incredible work of studios, educational institutions and individuals in the North. It's a pleasure to be taking part in Kids in Museums Takeover Day again for 2024. Coinciding with Discover Creative Careers Week and with the support and funding from Create Sheffield, three SEND schools will have the opportunity to take over curation duties on Friday 22nd November through fun ‘Museum Makers’ workshops. Gaining an insight into the variety of roles needed to create a Museum like ours, the workshops will not only showcase the roles and responsibilities within the Museum but enable learners to be a curator for the session! Last year saw pupils from Arbourthorne Community Primary School, Stonelow Primary School and Northfield Junior School become 'Museum Makers' (pictured) creating ideas for new exhibits and games for the Museum where they pitched their ideas to the rest of the class. We're very much looking forward to seeing and sharing all their brilliant ideas! #TakeoverDay #DiscoverCreatoveCareersWeek #Museum #Curators #Heritage #videogames
