Building a better Circular Economy. Tech in the Circular Economy is still in its infancy, which looks like a giant playground full of clever tech toys and endless possibilities. Before we head into the nitty gritty of our latest creation, let's set the scene. Benthyg Cymru is a network of Library of Things, based in Wales. Benthyg Cymru is championing the ‘borrow, don’t buy’ movement. Benthyg (ben-thig), meaning "to borrow or lend" in Welsh. Have you been to the Re:make Newport store? It's the first permanent community repair and reuse space in Wales. A collaborative initiative with Repair Cafe Wales. We have been friends with the Benthyg Cymru gang for eight years or so, and have been lucky enough to work with them, and the wider circular economy movement, for the last few years. In Owen's latest Developer Blog, he takes us on a journey, detailing the mechanics of how we created a product to prove that borrowing and repairing is a very real sustainable solution to a world-wide problem. Over the last few months we have been concocting and creating an exciting product with Hubbub 💛 We are huge fans of Hubbub, an environmental charity focusing on changing behaviours, connecting communities, and leading much needed change with inspirational and innovative solutions. Last Friday students from Smallwood Primary School and Language Unit took on the role of product designers with us. We user tested our co-created language learning tool with them. We kick started this project four years ago at a NHS hackathon. We have collaborated with some fantastic organisations including City University, NIHR, St Georges University Hospital, The Turing Institute, and many individual professionals in the learning space that have huge passion for helping young people.
