Our final evaluation of “Building Peace from the Inside”, Phase II, explores how insider mediators are preventing and transforming violent conflict in #Burundi, #Niger, and #Zimbabwe. Funded by the European Union and implemented by Search for Common Ground, Berghof Foundation, Interpeace, Centre d'Alerte et de Prévention des Conflits, and Africa University, the project strengthened the capacity of local mediators to resolve disputes, build trust, and promote sustainable peace. The evaluation highlights the impact of these efforts, showing how mediation—when paired with mental health and psychosocial support, inclusive approaches, and strong networks—can foster dialogue and strengthen social cohesion. It also offers lessons for expanding the reach and effectiveness of insider mediation in complex conflict environments. 📘 Read the full evaluation report here: https://bit.ly/42dqS6j , and the lessons learnt and best practices brief here: https://bit.ly/4hgFpme The thematic policy briefs developed by consortium partners provide additional insights into the roles of women and youth mediators, the power of mediator networks, and recommendations for advancing mediation practices. 📖 Access them here: https://bit.ly/4aj3SFa #LocalPeacebuilding #ConflictTransformation #InsiderMediators #ResilientCommunities

Last month, Bodhi was in #SierraLeone as part of the mid-term evaluation of IPIS - International Peace Information Service’s “Addressing Drivers of Conflict” programme, funded by the #EU. Our conflict researcher, Aoife Keogh, met with civil society, government, and community representatives to understand the challenges and progress in addressing conflict drivers rooted in natural resource governance, in particular diamond governance—issues often intertwined with cross-border dynamics. This multi-country evaluation also covers #CentralAfricanRepublic, #DemocraticRepublicofCongo, #Tanzania, and other countries across #SubSaharanAfrica, and adopts a theory-based approach to assess the programme’s impact on promoting security, development, and human rights. By integrating research, grassroots support, and advocacy, the IPIS programme aims to tackle these complex challenges and drive sustainable solutions. #Peacebuilding #ConflictPrevention #ConflictResolution #HumanRights #NaturalResourceGovernance #ClimateJustice #Evaluation

As #16DaysofActivism comes to a close, we reflect on insights shared at the #SVRIForum in Cape Town, attended by Charlotte Wiseman, Bodhi’s Head of Gender and Inclusion. A key takeaway was that #FeministResearch demands #FeministProcurement. This means providing realistic timelines, adequate budgets, and clear guidelines for participatory and feminist methodologies—removing barriers that often incentivise cutting corners. Transformative change starts with systemic support for ethical, feminist research approaches. Among many compelling and engaging workshops and discussions, a few notable highlights stood out: > #SimulationModelling: sistemaFutura’s groundbreaking digital “sandbox” predicts the outcomes of policy and programmatic changes on GBV survivors, showing how even small shifts in systems can lead to profound impacts. > #TechFacilitatedGBV: Discussions explored growing challenges like online abuse and tracking, alongside solutions such as safer #AIChatbots and creative methods to engage young people in research. > #InteractiveInstallation: The art installation, "No Country for Women" by Nell-Louise Pollock poignantly memorialised lives lost to GBV in South Africa, using cascading textile art to illustrate the scale and urgency of the crisis. Bodhi is grateful to have attended such an inspiring event, and as we wrap up this year’s #16DaysofActivism, we hope these insights offer a fresh perspective. From systems modelling to survivor-centred creativity, below are the key takeaways from the SVRI Forum in October. #16days #SVRI2024 #GBV #FeministResearch #GenderEquality #GlobalAction

Human rights are at the heart of everything we do at Bodhi. Grounded in the principles of dignity, equality, and justice enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, our work helps organisations address human rights implications, safeguard vulnerable communities, and embed rights-based approaches into their policies and programmes. As Bodhi marks #HumanRightsDay, this year's theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” reminds us that human rights are a cornerstone of sustainable progress—preventing harm, protecting the vulnerable, and driving transformative change towards peace and equity. Human rights belong to all of us. #OurRightsOurFuture #Equity #Safeguarding #Peacebuilding #OHCHR #UDHR

🌟 Bodhi is proud to be leading a baseline study to inform the design of Search for Common Ground’s new peacebuilding programme, “From Grassroots to Global: Empowering Communities in Peacebuilding Policy”, funded by the Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. The study spans four countries across #Africa, the #MiddleEast, and #SouthAsia, analysing how local actors within communities in conflict can meaningfully and durably influence multi-level peacebuilding practices and policies which contribute to strengthening peaceful and safe societies. What’s our goal? To assess the capacity of local peacebuilders, the effectiveness of grassroots practices in shaping policy, and the international system’s responsiveness to violent conflict prevention needs This baseline will provide critical insights to inform the programme’s efforts to strengthen inclusive, locally-led and sustainable peacebuilding. #Peacebuilding #CommunityResilience #LocalLeadership #InclusivePeace
