"Defiance isn't only for the brave or the extraordinary, it's available and necessary for all of us. We can defy in ways that are the most comfortable and natural for us, with less anxiety and angst. And the more we practice, the more we prepare ourselves for the critical moment when it arrives..." Have a listen to a sample from the definitive book on defiance by Dr. Sunita Sah. Transformative and revelatory in equal measure, Defy: The Power of No in a World That Demands Yes is out today with Blink. https://lnkd.in/ejHV_Kbv

I had the privilege and honour to attend the #ReadingRights summit today, hosted by BookTrust and the brilliant Waterstones Children’s Laureate, Frank Cottrell-Boyce. Encouraging a love of reading and ensuring that books reach the young people who need them most is a cause very close to my heart. It’s a central pillar of my role as President of The Publishers Association and something I believe has the power to transform lives and shape brighter futures. I was blown away by the determination and passion of everyone in the room as we came together across sectors to identify the challenges and pinpoint the areas of action needed to close the disadvantage gap and bring the transformational power of reading to communities up and down this country. This is just the beginning. Stay tuned for the launch of the Reading Rights report this spring—it’s set to be a vital step forward for our shared mission. Bonnier Books UK
We were delighted to host the #ReadingRights summit with Waterstones Children's Laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce today. It was a pleasure to have such expert, passionate voices in the room from a range of sectors including politics, education, literacy, early years, arts and health. Frank began the day with a stirring call to action before speeches from Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram, author and former Laureate Michael Rosen, and Spellow Library fundraiser Alex McCormick and panel discussions centring on the themes of Best Start in Life, Nurseries and Schools, and Families and Communities. The day ended with a brilliant keynote speech from Children's Commissioner Rachel de Souza, who shared how important reading is to the children she speaks with. All the conversations from the day will feed into the publication of our Reading Rights report in the spring, which will focus on the changes and policies needed to get children reading.

A new partnership will link schools in the UK with those in Ukraine, highlighting reading for pleasure and helping to foster cross-cultural understanding, as part of an historic 100-year partnership between the two countries. Launched by the Prime Minister today in Kyiv and Education Secretary Bridget Philipson in Liverpool, the project will initially involve 50 schools in each country in a year-long project, with children sharing stories from their own cultures and exploring the benefits of reading as a way to expand horizons, build confidence and boost mental wellbeing. Publishers Association President Perminder Mann has welcomed the government’s project, commenting “Supporting reading for pleasure is one of the most transformative and meaningful things we can do for young people. It opens up a world of possibility, allowing children to escape their everyday worries, discover new cultures, build confidence, and lay the foundation for educational success. The publishing community is fully behind the government’s commitment to prioritising reading for pleasure as part of the UK-Ukraine partnership. Together, we can truly make a difference.” Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eCehib7V
