At the recent fantastic MSI Rail Supply Chain Awards Event, Bourne Group Ltd were thrilled to once again walk away with an industry gong, this time winning the ‘Improving the Environment’ award! 🏆 Morgan Sindall Infrastructure were impressed with how “Bourne helped facilitate a total carbon saving of 199.7 tonnes of CO₂ at Surrey Quays Station by providing XCarb steel and EAF steel instead of traditional methods. Careers Fairs offer much more than just a chance to submit your CV. They're a chance to network with our talented professionals, gain industry insights and learn about trends, challenges and innovations in our field. Last week, Bourne Group Ltd rubbed shoulders with AWE, Jaguar Land Rover UK & BAE Systems at the University of Southampton’s Women In Engineering Panel, part of their annual Autumn Careers Fair. Nearly 50 enthusiastic students from various disciplines of engineering, from mechanical to civil to structural, attended the Q&A session. A meet & greet followed with one of our three female structural engineers, focusing on increasing the knowledge of students & giving them a better understanding of what the steel construction industry can offer them when they graduate. Morgan Sindall Infrastructure’s 20-tonne Carbon Challenge 2024 invited all of their projects to make a 20-tonne carbon saving. Bourne Rail and Special Projects collaborated with Morgan Sindall at Surrey Quays Station and their proposal was a finalist! The Surrey Quays works will improve capacity and step-free access, and forms part of a wider programme of improvements which will help unlock 14,000 new homes and alleviate the pressure of nearby Canada Water station. The total steel tonnage for Surrey Quays Station is 120 tonnes, with 69% of steel sourced through EAF’s and 18% being XCarb Steel - the total carbon saving of this project is 199.7 tonnes of CO₂. In addition to this, our everyday actions are making a big difference in helping us minimise our negative impact on the environment. From using alternative power sources and reusable clothing, to changing cement types to increase GGBS and amending the design of secant piles to reduce concrete volumes. Incorporating these ideas will have a positive impact on our products and projects, as we continue to focus on achieving demonstrable progress towards net zero by 2050! #sustainability #carbonreduction #greeinitiatives #carbonchallenge #sustainablebuilding
