“A key part of building the volume of homes that the UK needs is having a skilled, diverse and inclusive workforce; apprenticeships are a critical route to delivering this. As the last day of #NationalApprenticeshipWeek we are using it to raise awareness of the importance of the Level 7 Apprenticeship funding to facilitate this. The Government announced plans to reform England’s Apprenticeship Levy in September with initial proposals to reduce government funding, we are campaigning to ensure this doesn’t happen. If this change were to be implemented, it would have a devastating effect, adding to the financial challenges facing both practices and prospective architects for whom the costs of training are already an onerous burden. Increasingly young people are unable to afford the traditional university routes into the profession and for many the Level 7 apprenticeship is essential to enabling them to become qualified architects. We anticipate that loss of funding will adversely affect those from less well-off backgrounds who are not able to afford typical university routes to qualification.” Peter Sofoluke, Director Read more from Peter here: https://lnkd.in/eHXwJZDd #apprenticeship #architecture #education

“At last, someone is talking about housing” - These words, shared with optimism at last week's WISH panel talk, encapsulate the spirit of the event, which delved into the challenges and opportunities within the social housing sector. Hosted at HTA Design LLP’s offices, the panel featured insightful contributions from Catherine Raynsford – Legal & General Affordable Homes, Fiona Fletcher Smith – L&Q, and Bethan Buck (she/her) - National Housing Federation, who shared their knowledge and perspectives on the ambitious build programme, new regulations, and other pressing issues facing social housing. Fiona Fletcher-Smith aptly noted that while there may not be a silver bullet, through collaborative efforts and by listening to residents, we can make a significant impact. The event was a powerful reminder that, despite the challenges, there is a collective ambition to deliver high-quality homes for those in need, a design driver that sits at the heart of BPTW’s projects. We look forward to continuing these important conversations at future WISH events and working together to create a better future for social housing. The first two sites of our transformative masterplan for Bellway Homes at Billet Road in Redbridge have secured planning approval! The approval covers Sites A & B, amounting to 692 of the overall 1350 homes within BPTW's 20-hectare masterplan. This development will feature a mix of 4 to 5-storey apartment buildings and individual family homes, creating a unique interface between Greenbelt agricultural land and suburban London. BPTW developed the detailed architectural vernacular across the sites comprising two of three well-defined character areas, celebrating the rural surroundings and ensuring a seamless transition from rural to urban settings. The landscape-led scheme creates a child friendly neighbourhood with key sustainability features which have been endorsed by London Borough of Redbridge and stakeholders through a comprehensive engagement process.
