About us
The Brain Tumour Research charity exists to raise the awareness of and grow the funding for scientific research into brain tumours and improve outcomes for brain tumour patients. We are the only national charity in the UK dedicated to funding continuous and sustainable scientific research into brain tumours. We are a leading voice in this country calling for greater support and action for research into brain tumours. The Brain Tumour Research charity supports one of the UK’s largest collaborative group of laboratory-based scientists progressing world-class research into brain tumours, working tirelessly to glean new layers of understanding about this disease. Key statistics on brain tumours: • Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer • They kill more children than leukaemia • They kill more men under 45 than prostate cancer • They kill more women under 35 than breast cancer • Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease • In the UK 16,000 people each year are diagnosed with a brain tumour • Less than 20% of those diagnosed with a brain tumour survive beyond five years compared with an average of 50% across all cancers • Incidences of, and deaths from, brain tumours are increasing. Together we will find a cure. Text CURE to 70660 to donate £5.

This week we attended this year’s Scottish Cancer Conference, where Neil Gray MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, highlighted the importance of investing in cancer research, clinical trials, and AI for early detection. A key moment was the moving speech from our Patron, Theo Burrell, who shared her personal journey living with a brain tumour, reminding us: "It's not what you’ve been given, it’s what you do with what you’ve got." The conference reinforced the need for continued focus on innovation to improve outcomes for cancer patients, particularly those with brain tumours. Read more here ➡️ https://bit.ly/3ARJePh..

Today, we remember Simon Penwright, a devoted husband, father, and an inspiration to all who knew him. Diagnosed with a multifocal glioblastoma (GBM) in January 2023, Simon faced his journey with incredible strength and positivity, supported by his loving wife, Emily, and their family. Despite the challenges, Simon and Emily shared their story to raise awareness of this devastating disease and to help fund research into brain tumours. Their efforts, alongside the support of their community, raised over £50,000 for Brain Tumour Research. Simon’s courage, determination, and love for life continue to inspire us as we work towards our vision of finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. His memory will remain forever in our hearts. 💛 If Simon’s story has touched you, please consider donating to Brain Tumour Research to help fund vital research and create hope for others affected by this devastating disease: https://lnkd.in/eav4rgYs #InOurHearts #BrainTumourResearch #Glioblastoma #FundResearch #TogetherWeWillFindACure
