Have you ever considered how road design can keep road users safe? Safe roads are designed to put the needs of people before traffic. In cities, towns and villages, people can walk and cycle safely, away from traffic, on well-lit, obstacle-free, segregated footpaths and cycle paths. Roads between places should be designed with safe speed limits, clear road markings and consistent signage. Public Safety
Campaigning for safer streets and delivering the National Road Victim Service
About us
Brake is a road safety charity established in 1995 to stop the needless death, injury and pollution happening on our streets every day. We offer free tools, resources and support for communities, schools and businesses, running global campaigns including #RoadSafetyWeek each November and the Global Fleet Champions initiative for at-work drivers. Through our National Road Victim Service, we offer support to all those affected by road death and injury, as well as the professionals that care for them.

Drivers who talk on phones, both hands-free and hand-held, are four times more likely to be in a crash resulting in injuries. Driving demands a person's full attention – any distraction that take's a driver's eyes away from the road could potentially be lethal. Using a hand-held phone while driving is illegal, and doing so can result in 6 penalty points on your licence and a £200 fine.
