We’re joining forces with Brakes UK to further invest in our Junior Chef Academy and inspire the next generation of culinary talent! 👨🍳 👩🍳 Developed by our Compass Apprenticeship Team and aimed at children between 14 and 16, the 10-week programme sees aspiring junior chefs embark on a transformative culinary journey, honing their skills and techniques, plus crafting a diverse range of delicious dishes. Brakes Foodservice sponsorship ensures each attendee is equipped with professional chef whites for participants to keep and ingredients for each cohort to create their dishes. 🎓 It's #NAW2025 Celebration Friday and we'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate the 18 Sysco GB apprentices who successfully completed their programme in 2024! We can't wait to see where your journey takes you. 👏 Our 117 colleagues enrolled in an apprenticeship across Sysco GB today play a vital role in our business. And more flexible opportunities will help increase access to apprenticeships. So we're pleased the Government has responded to our calls for shorter apprenticeship courses and more flexibility in the minimum qualification requirements for English and Maths. 🙌   The introduction of a new Growth and Skills Levy also provides an opportunity to reform the system, creating flexibility to enable businesses like ours to invest in and train our workforce. Every year Brakes Catering Equipment donate to a charity chosen by our colleagues. This year we donated £3,356 to Homeless Street Angels which included a £2,700 equipment donation!   The equipment we have provided, which includes kitchen appliances, soup kettles, chopping boards and disposable cups will go toward the Homeless Street Angels commercial kitchen where they cook meals to feed the homeless.    But the help doesn't stop there. 📢 We welcome the announcement by Stephen Morgan MP that the government will commit £200 million to fund the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme for 2025/26. This vital initiative ensures that children from low-income families have access to nutritious meals and enriching activities during school holidays. 👏 We're proud to have championed this cause alongside our partners, Meals and More, and its supporters and club providers. And in November we held a Parliamentary drop-in focused on this ask, building strong support across the House. While this commitment is a welcome step forward, we continue to urge the government to address two further critical areas: ✅ Index-linking any future HAF Programme funding to ensure that its value keeps pace with rising costs, safeguarding its impact for years to come. ✅ Extending the scope of the programme to include all children in households with Below Average Resources (BAR), not just those eligible for free school meals. This would provide much-needed support to thousands of additional families who are struggling but currently excluded. We're committed to working collaboratively with policymakers and partners to address these priorities and build on today’s progress. Together, we can ensure that the HAF Programme reaches its full potential, offering a lifeline to more families and children in need.
