I first met Echaunti Swan at an iCAN event for International Women’s Day earlier this year, and after having a follow up meeting, she was keen to support us and put her money where her mouth is. We are honoured to have been the charity partner for this year’s Black-Owned Market Event with iCAN: The Insurance Cultural Awareness Network A few weeks ago, Bridging Barriers had the privilege of being part of an event that celebrates diversity, creates lasting connections and empowers Black entrepreneurs through the Black-Owned Market Event. Excited to share that I’m part of Bridging Barriers’ Turning Point mentoring programme as part of the October cohort! 🎉 As a third-year student still exploring potential career pathways, I've often found myself worrying about the future and concerned about gaps in my industry experience. However, I knew it was time to take that first step forward, starting with finding a mentor to guide me on this journey. I’m hopeful that this mentorship programme will be the turning point I need! I’m grateful to my mentor, Kirsta Anderson, for accepting me as a mentee, and I look forward to learning and building the skills I need to leverage my strengths and find my direction. I recently met my mentees for Bridging Barriers and wow. So much talent and so inspiring. ⭐️ When I look at them its like peeking into the doorway of a vault and seeing the priceless gems inside. 💎 I am excited for their journey and growth into #tech and #projectmanagement. And somehow I am lucky enough to be guiding them; it can only be God when I know just what to say to them and what they need. The interesting this is even the skill set I use in my trauma healing work comes in handy when dealing with them. For example this week I encouraged two of my mentees to breath better and gave them techniques to improve lung capacity. This in turn ensures ample oxygen to the brain and enough air to speak. Therefore helping them to present projects more effectively, engagingly and with ease. Tag someone you have been blessed to encounter in the comments this week.
