Helping leadership teams develop an engaging culture to drive business performance

“𝑻𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏 𝒂 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒍𝒐𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒔𝒆, 𝒊𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒊𝒕? 𝑰𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖’𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖’𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕, 𝒚𝒐𝒖’𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒃𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒚 𝒅𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈.” - 𝑻𝒆𝒅 𝑳𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒐 This is the face Monty makes when he wants something. I think he might be the best change agent I've ever met. He signals that change is needed with his adorable expression, creating a sense of urgency with gentle pats of his paw. Even after achieving his first success, usually a pâté-filled bone, he consistently encourages me to keep moving towards the refrigerator. Every time I comply, he rewards me with love and affection, then shows me what he wants next. It's clear that he has used his puppy insights to figure out how to get me involved in changing the status quo from no snacks to having plenty! A 2024 report from OC Tanner on Global Organisational Culture revealed that only 47% of UK leaders consider their employees when making business-wide changes. Additionally, just 44% of UK senior leaders seek employee opinions as changes are rolled out. Change is uncomfortable, and if it wasn't, you probably aren't stretching yourself enough. However, that doesn't mean participation can't be fun. So, how do we, as leaders of change, make the experience more enjoyable and collaborative for all? Maybe we can consider being a bit more like Monty. Small changes every day in the right direction can help us become comfortable with being uncomfortable. Happy Friday! 🐾

The key question is: What will you focus on? Will you aim to get more done with fewer resources, or will you transform the systems and leadership behaviours that drive your current results? It's often tempting to focus on changing others rather than ourselves. However, as Damian Hughes highlights in his book How to Change Absolutely Anything, "For something to change, someone has to start acting differently. Ultimately, all change efforts boil down to the same mission: Can you start behaving in a new way and influence others to do the same?" If you want different results in 2025, reach out to us at Brighter Capability. We can help you develop your leadership style through coaching, enabling you to achieve operational excellence. #leadershipcoaching #operationalexcellence #2025 #bigideas2025

The role of the leadership team is to create a vision and then cascade the strategy to their teams, ensuring everyone understands the behaviors and resources needed to achieve it. While this might sound like a directive approach to leadership, the best way to implement it is through co-creation. This involves a two-way flow of information up and down the organization, sharing the overall direction, what it means for each team, and everyone’s role. After discussions, if adjustments are needed due to conflicting activities, the information should flow back up to the next layer for further discussion and alignment. At the end of this cascade cycle, there should be clear visibility from the top vision through to functional and team strategies. These strategies should be visible and understood by all. This rises to 63 % once their supply chains are also accounted for. Since this time there has been a shift in the availability of carbon literacy training and availability of carbon foot printing for SMEs. Businesses often recognise the importance of becoming greener and may move forward with carbon foot printing, but what next? Companies want to do something, but don’t know what the right first step is. Having done many courses on sustainability and helped companies develop their strategy for sustainability, last week, I completed a training course on COSIRI, the Consumer Sustainability Industry Readiness Index, from The International Centre for Industrial Transformation. This framework for evaluating where you are now across 24 dimensions is comprehensive and also offers a prioritisation matrix to identify what are the next 5 things that are right for you as a company to work on. This was delivered by the team at MIDASDX.COM DX and is now my go to for creating a meaningful roadmap for sustainability. Check out the framework and video's, it is well worth it.

If you want to improve your operational performance and aspire to hit the right quality, on time, in full, at a cost the customer is willing to pay, then why not utilise our operational excellence assessment as a starting point for creating your roadmap to improved business performance? We will conduct an evaluation of each area of your business by asking questions in 1-2-1 and group sessions with those who operate within it. We will collate the view from these sessions to illustrate what is currently working for you and propose topics where you could improve performance. Through conducting a line walk of your business processes, we understand what problems you are facing and discuss what we can do to help you find and implement the right solutions. The line walk takes half a day, is free of charge and enables us to create the right product package for you. Reach out to us today and find out more. #Brightercapability #Operationalexcellence #operationsmanagement

This is a part of the national forest that Monty and I often walk when the fields are too muddy. The path is clearly visible, even in the twilight, making it an ideal spot to start the day. What I find inspiring about here, is the view of the sunrise. It reminds me that all is not lost, because yesterday didn't go as I planned, because each day, when the sun rises, I have a chance to do something different and try again. Fancy seeing the sunrise tomorrow? Maybe take some time to reflect and choose to do something differently. If it doesn't quite work out, you have another tomorrow the day after to try a different approach. Happy Friday! #sunrise #hope #selfdevelopment #cpd #morningwalks
