  • BRR is looking for a new Drop-In Coordinator!! Our Drop-In spaces are at the heart of what BRR does and are the access route for members wanting to engage with support from BRR. Currently we run two drop-ins: an Advice drop-in on Wednesdays and a Welcome drop-in on Thursdays. On Wednesday members can access Advice Services. On Thursday we are a social space; we play games, do art and sewing, offer free haircuts, help people access other services and get the support they need and offer a delicious community lunch.  In this role you will have the opportunity to lead a large volunteer team who make these drop-ins possible. You will work in a busy space supporting our members to feel welcomed and get the support they need. You will meet people from all over the world and be an integral part of BRR’s community. You will need to be confident in managing health and safety and in taking responsibility for managing risk in a dynamic environment.  For more information about the role, including how to apply please visit our website - https://lnkd.in/d_RHEFR

  • From all at Bristol Refugee Rights we wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU!! ✨ You helped us not only reach or target of raising £10,000 but surpass our expectations to raise an amazing 🎉 £11,629 🎉 This money will enable us to continue to deliver our vital and unique services in Bristol which are becoming ever-more critical in these difficult times. Without the continued support from people and groups across our community, we could not support, protect and advocate for the number of vulnerable refugees and people seeking asylum as we do. On behalf of everyone at Bristol Refugee Rights, our Trustees and members, thank you for your continued support that will touch the lives of many

  • We have one more day to go on our current fundraiser and we are currently at 95% of our target! 🎉 Please help us to reach our target of £10,000. Your donation will go straight to work supporting asylum seekers like Reem, delivering the right advice, support and opportunity. Reaching our target will enable us to continue running our essential weekly services, such as 1:1 specialist support and advice, English classes that build knowledge, confidence and integration, our crèche so parents can attend classes or appointments, family day trips to enrich experiences in Bristol and so much more. £10 could pay for equipment for our English classes to help people to start their lives in Bristol. £30 could provide hardship payment for someone without financial support. £40 could provide telephone interpretation to someone who needs to access our advice services in their own language. £50 could pay for clippers for our volunteer hairdresser; an important contribution to feeling okay could be a haircut. £100 could cover drinks, snacks and a hot meal for those who attend our Welcome Drop-In.

  • We are happy to announce the appointment of our new CEO. Danielle Johnson, a leader in national and local support for refugees and people seeking asylum, is joining Bristol Refugee Rights (BRR) as its new Chief Executive Officer. Danielle brings a wealth of experience to the South West’s largest asylum seeker and refugee charity. Danielle was formerly the Head of Integration and Refugee and Migrant Portfolio at Groundwork and most recently the Refugee, Migrant, and Asylum Seeker Lead for the London Borough of Hackney. She has worked with communities including refugees and asylum seekers for more than 20 years, with Oxfam, Fairtrade, Groundwork and Hackney Council. She has established and led on fundraising and managing large departments, and introduced trauma-informed practice. Danielle has improved recruitment practices resulting in 50% staff with lived experience. Having worked with refugees in London, Palestine and Calais, and from refugee heritage herself, Danielle has a personal drive to lead a welcoming response for displaced people. “I am delighted to be offered the opportunity to lead the already excellent work of Bristol Refugee Rights. I bring passion and drive, and I’m looking forward to leading the organisation to achieve the strategic goals as well as ensuring an organisation that is strong, resilient, agile, innovative, and wellbeing focused, to enable the continuing life-changing work taking place.” Bristol Refugee Rights Chair Cyril Babeev: “Bristol Refugee Rights Board of Trustees and I are delighted to have Danielle join us as our next CEO. Danielle is an accomplished leader in the refugee and asylum seeker sector, bringing with her decades of experience. We are excited to have Danielle on board and look forward to working with her in continuing delivering exceptional services to refugees and asylum seekers, growing as an organisation and further developing our partnerships. We thank Andrew McCarthy for being an excellent Acting CEO in the time of transition and are thrilled for this next chapter of Bristol Refugee Rights.” Danielle will officially join Bristol Refugee Rights on the 25th of March.
