The Metropolitan Police has rolled out its latest weapon in the fight against phone snatching, using BSIA members Selectamark Security Systems plc's SelectaDNA. Officers will be provided with tagging sprays, which can be fired at phone thieves, marking them for potentially months after the crime. Snatch thefts have increased by 150% in London over the last year, with one phone stolen in the capital every six minutes. Read more about this initiative on our website: https://lnkd.in/et-gi4Xe

We are pleased to report that our intelligence initiative SaferGems has been recognised by the Metropolitan Police Flying Squad for its role in helping them to link and identify an organised gang of pickpockets that used distraction techniques and sleight of hand to steal £1million in jewellery and cash to justice; these thieves now face more than 40 years in prison. Our SaferGems Manager Sarah S. discusses its involvement (at 1.35): https://lnkd.in/d_kjXhYY

Today we remember Gaby Hutchinson, who tragically left us two years ago. A dog handler, Gaby was on duty with their dog Coco on the night of the Asake concert on 15 December 2022 and was caught up in the ensuing incident, losing their life four days later. Gaby played a vital role doing a job they loved. It is our duty in honour of their memory for us to keep Gaby’s name alive and for their contribution to never be forgotten. Today we remember Gaby Hutchinson – our colleague – and on behalf of the industry, we send our love to their family and friends. International Professional Security Association (IPSA)
