    Across Europe, the interim market is taking a strong foothold within the world of CFO search, and contemporary economic conditions are driving this. Refinancing on improved terms and other forms of financial re-engineering are becoming less effective at creating real value, meaning that having a clear and nuanced value creation plan is critical to every investment. CFOs are central to executing this value creation plan, yet the position has seen a high rate of churn over the last few years - 75% of our searches between H2 2023 and H2 2024 involved a CFO change mid-cycle. With many CFOs being newly committed to recent deals as a result, and rising deal flow stimulating demand for finance leadership, the market is tight. In response, we are seeing investors utilise interim solutions to deliver immediate value, throughout a target timeframe with no lengthy notice period. This allows investors to instantly deploy efficient and accurate talent at key points of the life-cycle, meanwhile guaranteeing a softer, and more attractive, landing for their long-term successors.     Portfolio CFOs are feeling overstretched and under-staffed. Our latest Portfolio CFO Analysis found that more than one in four CFOs from private equity backed companies felt there was a lack of investment in the finance function, with one in five saying their function was under-resourced. Talent remains a key issue, with ‘Retention of key team members’ (20%) and ‘Talent shortage’ (18%) cited as two of the biggest challenges being faced today. This is a 2bn turnover, B2B Services business due to undergo a major finance transformation post-acquisition.     Principal | Head of Finance & Strategy Leadership Practice

    As we head into the final quarter of the year, there have been reports of a slight recovery in the Private Equity market in comparison to 2023 – 2024 Q2 was the strongest second quarter in two years. This optimism is reflected in the roles we have been working on at Bronzegate. We have seen an increase in activity both within our CFO and Finance Leadership practices Several of the Large Cap funds are continuing to dominate the fundraising space and we expect further activity at this end of the market towards the end of the year. As a result our Large Cap team are working on large number of mandates across the UK and Europe. Despite the promising outlook, it seems that PE exits remain in decline, with interest rates and economic uncertainty still playing a factor. If the market continues to rebound as expected, we shall see how this effects PE exits and asset hold time. Having the correct capabilities within the Finance function is every increasingly important to achieve maximum value at exit in the current market.
