Covid Inquiry Module 3. Yesterday the hearings came to a conclusion. The final closing submission was made by Allison Munroe KC on behalf of Covid-19 Bereaved Families For Justice. It was an absolute triumph. You should watch the entire thing if you get the opportunity but here is a snippet regarding whether the NHS was overwhelmed. Today, we solemnly remember the 21 lives tragically lost in the Birmingham pub bombings 50 years ago. It was a day that forever changed the lives of many, as the IRA set bombs in two city centre pubs, the Tavern in the Town and the Mulberry Bush. The horrifying explosions claimed many lives instantly, injuring dozens more. This horrific event not only caused immense loss but also led to one of the most infamous miscarriages of justice, the arrest and life sentencing of the Birmingham Six in 1975. Their convictions were rightly overturned in 1991 after continuous campaigns and new evidence emerging. Unfortunately their release only overshadowed the victims of the attack. Police investigations have concluded, yet we are still yet to see a charge brought against the bombers. As we remember the victims, we recognise the enduring pain of the bereaved families, their unresolved questions, and the sense of unfulfilled justice they experience daily.
