A greener, safer, healthier Borough, where everyone prospers.

About us

Broxtowe District Council was formed on 1 April, 1974, following the amalgamation of the former Beeston and Stapleford Urban District council, part of the Basford Rural District Council and Eastwood Urban District Council. In 1977 the Council was granted Borough status and the first Mayor was elected. The Borough is divided into 21 wards and represented by 44 Councillors with two-tier local authority services provided by the Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council. The Borough lies to the west of the City of Nottingham and is bounded by the River Trent on the south and the River Erewash on the west. There are four main towns in Broxtowe - Beeston, Stapleford, Kimberley and Eastwood each with its own character and individuality. There is a wide choice of employment, housing amenities and countryside which makes Broxtowe a very pleasant place to live and work. Nearly two thirds of the land in Broxtowe is open countryside with a number of areas noted for their particular charm, and preserved as conservation areas. The most notable son of Broxtowe is D.H. Lawrence, born in Eastwood, whose writings reflect many places in the area.

Updates

  • During #ASBAwarenessWeek last month, our Senior Communities Officer led a litter pick in Beeston with students from Beeston Fields Primary School and local Police Officers for Partnership Day. Together, they collected rubbish around the town centre and Broadgate Park to help their community and keep the local spaces #CleanAndGreen. Well done and thank you for taking the time to care for the area working together to make a difference. #AntisocialBehaviour

  • Our £8,000 UKSPF funding to RideWise, the Nottingham cycling charity, means they can continue offering free cycling sessions every Saturday in Eastwood until March 2025. This support was made possible through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund from the UK Government. The free sessions in Coronation Park on Saturdays have seen families and individuals of all ages learning to ride or brushing up on their cycling skills. RideWise can loan people bikes and helmets to use during the sessions. So far, the programme has helped over 100 people learn to ride a bicycle and has got 6 residents involved in volunteering for the programmes. The Dr Bike team has repaired over 60 bicycles, putting them back into use. Read more https://bit.ly/3CHXhHz

  • It's Anti-bullying Week. This year the theme is ‘Choose Respect’, encouraging young people not to resort to bullying and reminding adults to lead by example. To show our support, we took part in #OddSocksDay! Below is a photo of the mismatched socks our Communities Team were wearing to celebrate individuality and raise awareness of bullying. We're participating in Anti-bullying Week to support our White Ribbon Action Plan in partnership with Broxtowe Women's Project. Tackling bullying can support the development of healthier social relationships in the future, helping to prevent violence against women and girls. • Broxtowe Borough Council has awarded a £9,500 grant for a project to remember Stapleford’s World War II fallen. Stapleford Town Council is coordinating the History of the Fallen project to commemorate the 65 people from the town who fell in WWII and are recorded on the town’s war memorial. The project has researched each of the names, trying to find photographs and more details. So far, 42 banners have been produced, each with the image and name of one of those who fell. The banners are on display from Monday 28 October until Friday 22 November, as part of the commemorations of Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day. Two banners will be displayed at Walter Parker VC Memorial Square as part of the Stapleford Town Council Remembrance event, complemented by 20 banners at the Library on Church Street and 20 banners at the Carnegie Civic and Community Centre on Warren Avenue.  Read more here https://bit.ly/3UoZ8a4
