  • Following the roaring success of Burges Salmon’s Got Talent last year, we've once again taken over the stage at Bristol Beacon to treat a packed audience to an exceptional talent show which has raised around £15,000 in aid of our charitable theme, Fairer Futures for Young People. A range of performers, including our partners, lawyers and business professionals, braved stage fright at the newly renovated Lantern Hall, to entertain the enthusiastic audience to a series of music, singing, magic and stand-up comedy acts. The firm’s choir also sprinkled the festive cheer and our Senior Partner, Chris Seaton, gave a moving rendition of Frank Sinatra’s My Way as he retires from the business next year. The money, raised through ticket sales, donations, auctions and a raffle, will be distributed to a number of charities and community groups across Bristol and Edinburgh to support education, health and wellbeing and social mobility projects and help tackle homelessness and food poverty amongst young people. Fairer Futures for Young People was voted as the firm’s new theme last year and we've already supported a number of organisations including Young Bristol, Edinburgh-based Lasswade High School, The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and the Children's Book Project in London. • Driving towards a greener future. The transport sector is the highest emitting sector in the UK, and the pressure to transition to decarbonised solutions is growing. While London boasts the largest zero-emission bus fleet in Western Europe, the majority of emissions still come from road vehicles and the journey is not without challenges. Our latest article explores the significant strides made in decarbonising bus fleets and how this transition aligns with broader ESG objectives. From improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions to creating skilled jobs and enhancing passenger experiences, Zero Emission Buses (ZEBs) offer wide-ranging benefits. At Burges Salmon, we provide comprehensive advice on all aspects of the ESG agenda, supporting clients in the bus sector to find innovative solutions and overcome challenges such as depot charging infrastructure, funding, renewable power sources, and hydrogen production. • In what has become a regular visit to One Glass Wharf, we were proud to once again welcome the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Cllr Andrew Varney, who came to collect the gifts our people generously donated in support of the Lord Mayor of Bristol's Children Appeal. For 100 years, the appeal has worked with and supported many Bristol families during the festive period, raising over £82,000 every Christmas to deliver some 1,650 food, clothes and toy vouchers to those in our city who need them most.   Alongside the toys donated this year, we were also pleased to gift 17 boxes of books following a firmwide collection which saw some 1,600 pre-loved children stories redistributed to a range of charities and schools in Bristol and Edinburgh. The initiative forms part of our charitable theme, Fairer Futures for Young People, as we work in our communities to tackle homelessness and food poverty whilst championing education, wellbeing and social mobility projects.   Joy Simmonds, from the Lord Mayor’s office, says: “Since the 1920s, our appeal has profoundly impacted countless families during the festive season, and it is through the kindness of organisations like Burges Salmon that we can continue this vital work. Every Christmas the firm makes a tangible impact on the lives of so many children and their support over the past decade embodies the spirit of community and compassion that is the backbone of our city.”   To support the Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children Appeal, click here: https://lnkd.in/ewq_Hnbx #ResponsibleBusiness #Christmas #Donate
