Upon our reflection on the worsening polycrisis thus far, Business Declares has renewed its position statement, calling for urgent change... It has been half a decade since Business Declares was launched, during the growing wave of climate awareness and climate strikes during September 2019. Five years on, it is clear that the combined efforts of businesses, governments and citizens have fallen well short of making any real impact on the climate, nature and social crisis, and of delivering a just transition. As we near the midpoint towards the next decade in addressing key targets for both climate and nature, Business Declares feels that it is critically important to acknowledge this worsening situation, by publishing our renewed "Business Declares Manifesto" comprising our renewed set of commitments, which we ask our business members to adopt, as we enter our fifth year of operations. Our new Business Declares Manifesto incorporates input from 40+ members, and comprises of: ✳ Our fundamental beliefs: 3 concerns we have about the gap between progress and need ✳ Best practice principles: 5 areas of best practice and the principles that underlie them that we ask our members to openly acknowledge ✳ The Business Declares Commitments: The threshold for becoming part of the Business Declares network with its agenda for change ✳ Working together: The characteristics of this network that help deliver the outcomes we need. Business Declares calls on businesses to adopt these best practice principles and commitments, regardless of where they are in their climate-nature journeys, to drive meaningful, urgent change, in the face of the worsening polycrisis. About us
Join Business Declares in acknowledging the Climate & Ecological Emergency We commit to tell the truth and raise awareness across the business sector of the imperative to accelerate action to address climate change, biodiversity loss and social injustice, and to inspire urgent action and debate. We celebrate all the companies who declare. We are certainly not claiming to be perfect, neither are we judging others, instead we are part of a coalition of the willing looking to collaborate and accelerate action. We use our influence to engage business leaders who want to add their voice to our resounding, collective call for change. We push the boundaries, facilitating conversations on the many complex challenges businesses are facing and urge faster action than the Paris agreement what does it mean to join Business Declares? A declaration must be backed by meaningful action and needs to be supported by the Board, Executive Team and lead to engagement of all employees and stakeholders. We welcome all business big and small whether willing to start the climate journey or wanting to use their work to inspire others and add to our collective business call for change. We recognise the complexity of making an authentic climate transition. We aim to support those overwhelmed by the challenge, sharing our open source resources and encouraging collaboration across our network to overcoming the hurdles to action. We encourage a business to write a declaration to resonate with their purpose and climate transition plans. See the declaration from Red-Inc as an example and please do get in touch to discuss. Join us to become a member of the UN Race to Zero through our official partnership.

Today’s business structures mainly prioritise financial returns and shareholder interests, which have pushed climate and nature to the brink. We've exceeded six of the nine planetary boundaries which are essential for humanity to develop and thrive for generations to come. Trends such as rising emissions and ecosystem destruction continue to worsen. Business Declares believes that businesses can still be a force for good, but our current systems often hinder the radical changes we need. Join our Knowledge Xchange event this Thurs 21st Nov, for an inspiring panel discussion led by Suzanne Wise with panellists Philip Corsano-Leopizzi, Donna Okell, Annika Schneider and Brontie Maria Ansell - on the future of business structures. We'll explore whether current models are suitable for the challenges ahead, and what alternatives could be put in place.
