Earlier today, Iain Cox, Chair of the BSA, chaired a thought-provoking panel session at Anticipate London on the FIREX Expertise and Guidance Stage. The session, “Construction and Design - Sustainable, Yes, but is it Compliant?”, explored the balance between sustainability and fire safety compliance in construction. The panel discussed whether sustainable materials and designs can meet fire safety standards while supporting the UK’s 2050 net-zero goals. A big thank you to all panel members and attendees for contributing to such an engaging and insightful conversation! #Anticipate2024 #FireSafety #Sustainability #Construction #NetZero #BSA #FireResilience

The BSA aims to increase the number of business premises that have fire sprinklers fitted.
About us
The BSA (Business Sprinkler Alliance) is an organisation that aims to enhance protection against fire through the increased acceptance and use of fire sprinklers in business premises. Founded in 2010, the BSA aims to drive a culture change so that sprinklers are better understood and accepted as the norm for UK business buildings by raising awareness of the benefits that they can bring to businesses, people, communities and the environment. The BSA membership is made up of experts who represent organisations and trade associations that have an interest in fire sprinklers and fire protection.

Latest on Showhome: BSA welcome updates to new care home safety but calls for further action In the statement from England, the then Building Safety Minister Rushanara A. MP emphasised that "a compassionate society protects its most vulnerable." Her views come in the wake of the comment made by Grenfell Inquiry chair Sir Martin Moore-Bick who said the definition of a ‘higher risk’ building should be reviewed and not be based on its height rather than the presence of vulnerable people. The BSA agrees with this sentiment but contends that the revision to the guidance to include new care homes falls short of fully embracing this principle. Tom Roche, Secretary of the Business Sprinkler Alliance, stated, "While we welcome the inclusion of sprinklers in new care homes, we must recognise that this regulatory change leaves a significant gap in protection for other vulnerable individuals. The new changes do not apply to existing care homes, nor do they cover assisted living accommodations or other buildings housing vulnerable people." Are we in danger of a blindspot in sustainability thinking? Carbon " accounting principles" have shifted how materials are selected and choices are made on projects. It's assumed that the impact of fire is being considered but is there a gap in knowledge and understanding?
