Introducing this year's end-of-year video...with a little twist. Instead of talking about all we've accomplished over the past year, we put the spotlight on our people with a festive Behind the B🎄 #ButtressArchitects
Buttress
Architecture and Planning
An AJ100 design studio providing architecture, heritage and urban design services. Certified B Corporation.
About us
Buttress provides architecture, heritage and masterplanning to clients across the country. We’re a multi-faceted community of specialists. Experts, not egos. Team players with all the skills you need, in house. We’re thinkers as much as makers. We believe that architecture is as much about people as buildings, and that buildings should be shaped by their surroundings, their role and the people who’ll use them. Our work includes the public and private sectors, the urban and the rural, the residential and commercial, the traditional and the contemporary, and we’re renowned for our exceptional skills in heritage and conservation. Our approach is about combining the practical and the beautiful, the real and the visionary, responding to the brief and going beyond the brief, finding different angles and perspectives. We enjoy the unusual, the complex and the challenging. We respect the individual and we work collectively. Giving life to buildings and award-winning buildings to clients and the community. Ours is a start to finish service, built around quality, creativity and fresh thinking, designed to give you what you want, even if it’s not what you asked for or expected. Good to look at. Great to use.

Plans and designs have been developed for Mercer Hall, Great Harwood. Mercer Hall has been at the heart of Great Harwood's town centre and its community for over 100 years. Our priority for the building is to not just preserve the architecture but to reflect the community's aspirations for the Hall, making it a functional and useful space for local people. We're excited to be a part of the transformation at Earlestown, working on the refurbishment of the Town Hall. The refurbishment will provide a space for the local community to come together.
Green light for Earlestown Planning permission has been granted to bring the transformational vision for #Earlestown to life, as part of our #partnership between ECF and St Helens Council. The historic market town is home to the oldest working market in the country and a 125-year-old Grade II Listed Town Hall and clocktower, which hosted an early performance by The Beatles. The plans include: 👉 Enhanced and upgraded market square into a stunning multi-use public square 👉 New permanent market canopy providing high-quality, sheltered trading and events space all year round 👉 Internal refurbishment of #Earlestown Town Hall with #community space, flexible workspaces and a new courtyard garden and café Read more: https://lnkd.in/eDCup3bA ECF with Homes England | Legal & General | St Helens Council | CBRE UK | Jon Matthews Architects | Buttress | Planit | Influential Agency | AtkinsRéalis | Arcadis | Cundall #placemaking #regeneration #partnership #community

Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the delivery stage of our work at Delapre Abbey, Northampton, has started. We will be transforming the stables into a new wellbeing hub. It is so important to preserve heritage spaces and ensure they are properly maintained and enjoyed for generations to come. The work at Delapre Abbey is about creating a place for communities to gather and use every day. Read more about the plans for the site: https://buff.ly/3ZQ9WkX #ButtressArchitects #Heritage

An insightful article about the benefits of #Passivhaus and sharing knowledge within the industry. This year, we produced a Passivhaus guide to do just that. Download here: https://lnkd.in/dPt4kra9
"We want 10% of UK buildings to be Passivhaus by 2030 – it’s a massive challenge" In our latest guest blog, Jon Bootland, Chief Executive of the Passivhaus Trust, explains the Trust's ambitions for #Passivhaus standards and how they are key to the UK’s #carbonreduction strategy. He explores how their own research has identified almost 50 unique benefits of a #Passivhaus home and how working with #placemakers like Muse is central to their approach. We regularly hear people say: "I didn't know you do that." So we think we've found a solution. Introducing our Buttress handbook...currently a work in progress. We'll share some extracts over the next few months. #ButtressArchitects

We had a great spot from one of our Manchester team last week with what looks like the Buttress 'B' on our office building void. A little-known fact is that we designed the building that houses our Manchester studio. The design is inspired by the Victorian mills that once defined the area. The four-storey void running through the middle was created to let in natural light and break up the building’s solid form. #ButtressArchitects

This week saw the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities - and it seemed the right time to talk about our accessibility work at Showtown. Every part of our work at the museum was thought out and carefully designed with accessibility in mind, following universal design standards. It's incredibly important to knowledge share and provide a guide for the inclusion of accessibility features in design. We want our work at Showtown to encourage others to do the same.
