  • A huge congratulations to all the winners at last night's Disability Power 100 awards, organised by the Shaw Trust! The Disability Power 100 recognises the most influential disabled people in the UK each year at a purple-carpet awards event celebrating impact, influence and innovation. In particular we're celebrating Robbie Crow who was voted 3rd most influential disabled person in the UK, up against some amazing competition. Robbie is an experienced disability inclusion specialist working to create equitable workforces that make disabled people feel valued, included and understood, and like a place they belong. Everything he does is underpinned by Social Model of Disability values to create environments where everyone can thrive and be included. Robbie regularly shares his experience, hints and tips with CamSight and here on LinkedIn. If you’d like to hear some of what he's learned, and use his experience to help improve your organisation, make sure to follow Robbie now!

  • Kate Lindgen is a real inspiration for VI Rowing and has helped to push VI Rowing opportunities at Peterborough City Rowing Club. Our service users at CamSight have been taking part in monthly sessions supported by this fantastic club, in an initiative by British Rowing's charitable trust Love Rowing. Video Description: Kate Lindgen has been rowing with Peterborough City Rowing Club for seven years. In this interview she talks about the sense of freedom and independence she gets from being on the water. In the video we see her out on a rowing boat with coach Pete, in a two man rowing boat. Then the pair sit alongside the boarding pontoon as she talks to the camera about her experiences over the past seven years. The weather is overcast and there are other boats on the lake. #BlindRower #SightLoss #VisualImpairement #CamSightCommunity #Wellbeing #CambridgeCharity #blindness #VISport

One very big thank you to Tesco’s March Hostmoor Superstore and its customers, who have raised £350 for CamSight via the community bookstall! Our new Business Development Manager, Sara Fleming, popped along to meet Community Champion Kelly to receive the cheque and talk about how the monies will be used. Sara Fleming, commented "When communities come together, good things happen. Tesco has always been so supportive of our charity, and we can't thank Kelly, the team, and their customers enough for this new donation. All monies raised contribute to our vital work supporting individuals living with sight loss throughout Cambridgeshire and Peterborough – including our monthly Peer Support Group at March Library." What better day to announce our partnership with Motability Foundation than today, 5 June, also being celebrated as World Environment Day! CamSight is delighted to share that, thanks to a successful award from Motability Foundation Community Transport Grant Programme, we are able to lease two Electronic Vehicles (EVs) to improve transport options available to blind and partially sighted people in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire. Our award of £152,484 has secured the vehicles for three years. Not only will they have huge environmental benefits but, importantly, it will help improve independence, wellbeing, and social inclusion for our clients by enabling them to remain an active part of their local community. Sara Fleming, Head of Business Development for CamSight, said: “We were thrilled when we found out we had been awarded a Community Transport Grant from the Motability Foundation, meaning we can develop and improve our community transport for our clients. Our commitment is always to provide a high-quality service to our service users, making sure we can help as many individuals to get to and from the appointments or services they need to access, as well as the Peer Support Groups and other activities we organise. Thank you Motability Foundation for helping CamSight to continue developing our services to best serve our community.” Lisa Jones, Motability Foundation's Director of Charitable Operations, said: “We’re delighted to award CamSight with this grant to expand transport services for blind and partially sighted people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. “This transport can be a lifeline to passengers, by supporting independent living, reducing isolation, and improving access to services. “Awarding grants to important local organisations like CamSight helps us to make an immediate difference to the transport needs of disabled people.” #WorldEnvironmentDay #ElectricVehicles #CommunityTransport #CommunitySupport #CambridgeCharity #PeerSupportGroups #SightLoss #Blindness #VisualImpairment #AccessibleTransport Motability Foundation Photo Description: Four ladies stand in front of a Mobility Foundation's Van branded in CamSight's colours and logo, one lady is dressed in blue to the left and has blonde hair, she smiles at the camera, the three older ladies stand to the right, one has a walking aid and the other two stand with shaded glasses on.
