With transformer shortages causing bottlenecks in many energy projects, getting it right is more important than ever. Transformers are not off-the-shelf assets, every asset needs careful planning from specification to footprint design. Collaborating with #experts is key to reducing risk and avoiding costly errors. I was reading today a very interesting article by Andrew Moseman available in the February issue of IEEE Spectrum and I tried to make a very simple graphical summary of the current situation of the transformer global shortage, that you can find at the end of the post. It was shocking realising that 2,600 GW of energy projects in the US alone are awaiting grid connection , largely due to the bottleneck caused by a lack of transformers. This is more than double the nation's current generating capacity! As correclty stressed in the article, transformers are not off-the-shelves component. You might need to replace an existing unit, you might need to fit a specific footprint or substation layout. Collaborating with an expert on transformer requirements specification is crucial. Given their highly customised nature, this proactive step reduces uncertainties and avoids costly surprises, especially with the current long lead times. Think of it as meticulously taping your walls before painting – essential for a smoother, better outcome from the start. #transformers #energystorage #renewableenergy #gridmodernization #supplychain
