Transforming the Built Environment into One of Earth’s Greatest Carbon Sinks… Now

About us

Transforming the Built Environment into One of Earth’s Greatest Carbon Sinks… Now. As a global leader in carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), Carbon8 specialises in mineralisation. Through our Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT), we capture CO₂ directly from its source to treat industrial residues and manufacture products. The CO₂ntainer is the realisation of our technology as a compact, mobile CCUS solution for hard-to-abate sectors. It allows for easy implementation, avoiding disruptions in production. Our vision is positive change through innovation, where we provide real solutions to heavy industry. Transforming waste carbon and residues into new links in a circular value chain. That’s more than sustainability. That’s Circular Impact.

  • Carbon8 is pleased to announce our inaugural sale and delivery of #permanentcarbonremoval credits. These credits were generated in partnership with DNV, through our verified ISO 14064-2 methodology. According to DNV, the summary of this process is that it is: ·        Providing accurate reporting eliminates the risk of double counting or incorporating unsupported removals. ·        Accurately measure emissions reduction/removal and account for equipment manufacturing, operation, and disposal emissions. ·        Establishing stringent, transparent, and repeatable monitoring procedures. This marks a significant milestone for Carbon8 as we endeavour to build and directly support a collaborative #decarbonisation ecosystem for the #cementindustry. Our efforts support the industry's goals in reducing #carbonemissions, adopting alternative fuels with lower emissions, and diverting material from #landfills. Ultimately, this initiative can transform the #builtenvironment into a permanent carbon sink. #carboncredits #carbonremoval #cement #esg #circularconstruction #aggregates #heidelbergmaterials #holcimmaqerventures #TitanGroup #cemexventures

With 35% to 40% of its overall CO₂ emissions stemming from combustion emissions, the #cementindustry has made significant strides to replace fossil fuels with alternative fuels sourced from various waste streams. The ambition in Europe is to achieve 95% alternative fuel use by 2050 (with 50% bio-waste) from the 53% today. Carbon8 is already in the market today, with a full-scale CCUS plant deployed in 2024 at a cement plant in France. This is designed to support the Cement industry's decarbonising roadmap. The industry is migrating from primary fossil fuels to alternative fuels, such as non-recyclable waste, to significantly lower carbon emissions and deliver greater economic and environmental value. Carbon8’s Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (#CCUS) technology is key to diverting the by-product of this adoption from going to #landfills. It transforms this into #lowcarbonmaterials used in #constructionproducts and captures more CO₂, all done at the point of source. Carbon8’s low-capex, low-opex mineralisation system is indispensable and appealing for the sector to meet its carbon neutrality ambitions. CCU POLICY I EU Approves New Framework for Permanent Carbon Removals to Support 2050 Climate Targets On 19th November, the Council of the European Union officially approved a new regulation establishing the first EU-wide certification framework for permanent carbon removals, carbon farming, and carbon storage in products (CRCF). Although this new regulation does not create a market for removals or mandate companies to purchase such certificates, it does establish a much-needed unified definition of carbon removals and the requirements for their certification. To meet the climate targets set for 2050, carbon removals, in addition, and as a last-mile effort to other priority actions to reduce emissions will play an important role in achieving net zero targets. Permanent carbon removals involve specific Carbon Capture and Utilisation (#CCU) technologies that capture CO₂ from the atmosphere or biogenic sources and store it in durable forms, such as mineralisation products (e.g. carbonated aggregates in construction, carbonated bricks, etc.). As CO₂ Value Europe, we welcome this regulation and urge the swift adoption of detailed technical rules to implement it. Such rules are essential to enable companies investing in CO₂ mineralisation from biogenic sources or direct air capture (#DAC) to bring their products to market and scale up operations. We also call on EU authorities to clarify the criteria for a second category in the legislation, carbon storage in products, including whether it will encompass semi-permanent CCU products like chemicals. Key Takeaways from the Regulation: 🔵 Mineralisation included in Permanent Removals: Legislation makes clear that biogenic or DAC CO₂ that is permanently bound in products qualifies as permanent removals. 🔵 Certification Schemes: Operators must comply with robust schemes ensuring transparent monitoring, verification, and reporting of their carbon removal activities. 🔵 EU Registry for Carbon Units: Four years after implementation, the European Commission will introduce an EU-wide electronic registry to enhance transparency and traceability of certified carbon removal activities. With heavy industry responsible for 20% of global CO₂ emissions and billions of tons of residues sent to landfills every year, sometimes it feels like there are few viable options ready to deploy today.   Carbon8 is different, our patented technology is developed, certified, in market, and ready to support more heavy industry in reducing its impact right now. Our #CCUS solution captures CO₂ directly from flue and uses it to carbonate waste residues, permanently and safely locking carbon into new materials. This process enables us and our partners to convert the built environment into a significant Carbon sink. Please reach out to us to see how we can address your emissions and residue challenges.

In case you missed yesterday's news, we’re delighted to announce that DNV, our validation and verification partner, has successfully validated Carbon8’s ISO 14064-2 carbon accounting methodology, stating that it: Provides accurate reporting, eliminating the risk of double counting or including unsupported removals. Measures emissions reduction/removal accurately, accounting for equipment manufacture, operation, and disposal emissions. Establishes stringent, transparent, and repeatable monitoring procedures.” This enables the creation of #carboncredits from the permanent storage of CO₂, whether sourced from industrial flue stacks or pure CO₂ sources such as Direct Air Capture.

  • We are thrilled to announce that DNV, the energy expert and assurance provider, has validated Carbon8's in-house developed ISO 14064-2 carbon accounting methodology, enabling the creation of #carboncredits resulting from our negative emission solution. ISO 14064-2 is the foundational standard for carbon crediting systems and requires projects to accurately quantify, monitor, and report greenhouse gas emissions associated with #CCUS and other #decarbonisation projects. Carbon8's methodology meets these requirements through prevalent, transparent monitoring procedures. Carbon8's technology not only captures and permanently stores carbon but also diverts ashes and residues away from landfills by transforming them into carbonated building materials. To this effect, Carbon8 helps hard-to-abate industries, such as #Cement, #Steel, #EnergyfromWaste and #PaperandPulp, to reduce their carbon footprint and landfilling requirements while utilising the built environment as a permanent carbon sink. Stay tuned for more information on where you can purchase our first batch of Carbon Credits!
