  • ❗ We need you to write to your MP for the legal right to a Care Supporter! ❗ It’s time for the Government to deliver Labour’s manifesto pledge to ensure no one has to go without the support of their loved one in health or care again. We need your help to turn that promise into tangible actions to deliver a new legal right. Use our resource below to call on your MP to raise this issue up the Ministers’ agenda, and help us demonstrate how important this right would be. ✍ Find our template and tips here: https://lnkd.in/exawktuz

  • 🌟 As we come to the end of the year, we're proud to have made a real difference to people in care and their loved ones' lives in 2024. Our advice team tirelessly supports people with restrictions and evictions, unfair charges and poor care, and we always endeavour to equip people with knowledge about their rights and how to use them💪 💝 Care Rights UK depends on the generous donations of our members and supporters in order to keep giving the free advice we give. If you can consider donating at this time of year, we are very grateful: https://lnkd.in/eZCBefNn

  • 🤝 Like any good charity, we wish our service didn't need to exist, but unfortunately change in the social care sector is slow. One of our longest serving members, Joanna Lyall, guest wrote a blog for us about her experience of the charity, highlighting what's changed since we were established by Dorothy White over 30 years ago - and what sadly hasn't. "An endurance test indeed. And proof, if any were needed, that Care Rights UK must push on. And I should remain a member. “ 💝 Care Rights UK depends on the donations of our incredible members like Joanna. Consider becoming a member, or making a donation to support our work today. Thank you. 📍 https://lnkd.in/evm8puV2

  • 🎄 'Tis the season to: ✅ Untangle Christmas lights ✅ Remember you never liked mince pies ✅ Frantically shop for distant relatives ⬜ Write to your MP for the legal right to a Care Supporter It's a really busy time of year but if you can spare 5 minutes we'd love it if you could support our campaign one more time. The festive season is often made by time spent with loved ones, but unfortunately people accessing care can't always rely on having the right to be supported by those who know them best. 🌟 Please write to your MP today to ask them to commit to a new legal right to a Care Supporter: https://lnkd.in/exawktuz

  • 📩 The Department of Health and Social Care has published the findings of research on the statutory duty of candour. The findings showed that less than 1 in 4 respondents said that the duty is correctly complied with when a notifiable safety incident occurs. We submitted evidence to the call for this work, emphasising that there is a lack of support for people to raise incidents and push for the duty of candour requirements to be met. The power imbalance in care settings is so skewed against the person needing care that they are often too afraid to speak out. Too often when things go wrong, people are not notified about incidents and it falls to relatives or friends of people using care services to spot and raise issues, such as bruising or injuries. We hope that this research will lead to more accountability for this statutory duty.

  • 🗣 We responded to the Change NHS consultation to ensure older people accessing care's needs are addressed in the 10-year health plan. Key steps could be taken such as stronger communication between health and care services, facilitation of the input of chosen representatives, and more robust staff training too address the current challenges with healthcare provision for those accessing care. Read more about these issues and our response on our website: https://lnkd.in/e8EHKM33

  • ✍ Thank you for writing to your MPs calling for action on the legal right to a Care Supporter! A loved one is not just a visitor, they can: - read non-verbal communication cues - help develop a personalised care plan - help communication flow between health and care environments - advocate against poor care - evoke memories for those with dementia. 🗣️ Be sure to let us know if you've taken part in this action by putting your MP's name in our form on this page: https://lnkd.in/exawktuz
