Emily Henderson who joined Carlyle as a Graduate Research Assistant, shares her experience and progression since she joined the team in July 2024. "Since graduating in 2024 and joining Carlyle as a Research Assistant, I have had the opportunity to work with an exceptional team that constantly prioritises client commitment and upholding strong core values. The opportunity to interact with senior Executives, whilst working with organisations that create lasting impact aligns strongly with my personal career goals. During my first 6 months at Carlyle, I have been granted both autonomy and trust, working on several exciting research projects and Searches across a diverse range of UK and international clients. This hands-on experience has provided me with invaluable insight into the inner working of these businesses, from their product offerings and values to their ownership structures. Collaborating with the Partners and Principals, I've been fortunate to gain hands-on ownership of my work and engage closely with high-profile sector leaders. Carlyle's culture - a tight-knit, driven, and supportive environment - has been instrumental in accelerating my personal and professional growth. The team's unwavering commitment to development has allowed me to continuously expand my sector knowledge and client-facing experience. I have been able to engage in various facets of the business, from high-level research, candidate mapping and outreach to conducting detailed market analysis projects. In addition to my core responsibilities as a Research Assistant, I have been able to actively contribute to business improvement initiatives, such as participating in the Design and Charity pods. The collaborative and fun working environment at Carlyle has made me feel valued and empowered every step of the way. I'm excited to continue growing alongside this great team as we go from strength to strength!"

It was a pleasure to spend time with Jonquil Hackenberg in the latest Carlyle Conversation, about the vital work the Ellen MacArthur Foundation is doing and the wider global sustainability agenda. The challenges are clear to see but the endeavour needs to match the lipservice. Jonquil has just taken on the role of CEO of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and has a clear vision to help build on the impressive work to date, while continuing to support the wider circular economy. A really insightful discussion and great to hear that even after such a high profile and successful career, there are still some - two-wheeled - challenges she finds difficult! As the Carlyle Conversations interview series continues, with key learns from leaders across the UK, it was a pleasure to sit down with Mark Kent CMG, CEO of Scotch Whisky Association. After a very successful career as an Ambassador and Diplomat, Mark joined SWA nearly three years ago and kindly shared some great insight into the importance of the sector in Scotland and the UK, how it has remained so resilient and the potential impact of the upcoming budget. And as has become tradition, he had some brilliant answers to our 'quick fire questions'. Thanks again for taking part Mark, it's easy to see why the industry holds SWA and the work that you do in such high regard. The Carlyle Consumer Lunch was recently hosted at the innovative The Port of Leith Distillery, a new nine storey vertical distillery based in Leith and the first of its kind in Scotland. We welcomed a number of business leaders, with a range of industries represented, to provide a diverse outlook on the industry. The event involved an entertaining and informative distillery tour followed by lunch where we were delighted to be joined by Founder and Co-CEO Ian Stirling who kindly shared the amazing journey they have been on over the last eight years to get to this stage. Like all start-ups, it has not been without its challenges(!), but the resilience and good humour shown throughout by Ian along with the unwavering belief that they are creating a truly differentiated product was inspiring. Some of the important topics covered on the day included: - Funding - Government support - Talent and Governance - Increase to minimum price of alcohol - International markets - Industry awareness Thanks again to Ian for hosting us and we thoroughly recommend visiting the Port of Leith Distillery to enjoy the warm hospitality and spectacular views across the Firth of Forth. #consumersector #businessleaders #distillery
