Arabella Ashfield PhD completed her undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Leeds Beckett University in 2006 and then received her PhD in Sport in 2016. She worked with the Great Britain Olympic Cycling Team for several years. Using all her industry experience and drawing upon her academic work, she set up Ascending Motherhood a few years back. ‘In the last few years, I have set up Ascending Motherhood, a coaching business which supports women through the challenges of motherhood and specifically returning to work after maternity. My Leeds Beckett academic journey has contributed hugely to my applied knowledge through my PhD studies in positive psychology meaning I have a unique offer to my clients.’ We are celebrating her achievements along with those of our other alumni during #GlobalEntrepreneurshipWeek.

Honoured to Chair this Taskforce and work with such an experienced group of people. We are all committed to working together to advance knowledge and understanding of the concept of unintentional doping and the myriad of contributing factors. We are looking forward to receiving contributions from the field to further shape this important work in 2025.

🌱 BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Nutrition: Exploring Food & Innovation! 🌱 This term our first year (level 4) students have been diving into the world of food systems in their Food Science module, product development and nutrition science, blending hands-on activities with groundbreaking insights with Sarah Chantler. Here’s a peek into their journey so far: 📸 Growing Microgreens 🌿 From seed to sprout, students explored sustainable food systems by growing their own microgreens at home, thanks to Sow Seeds (https://lnkd.in/gjYCruXR) 🌱 A small but mighty start to understanding food production! 📸 Carbs & Creativity 🍞🍓 Exploring the science of fermenting carbohydrates, they whipped up crumpets topped with a caramelised fruit compote. Delicious and educational! 📸 The Power of Pink 🎨 Dr Danny Brown’s research on colour and perception blew our minds! Danny shared the placebo effect of vibrant pink drinks and how colour influences taste perception and exercise performance. 🎥 Expert Insights 👩🔬 Professor Theocharis Ispoglou shared his innovative work on high-protein (essential amino acid) gels designed to support older adults with low appetites. A potential game-changer in nutritional science! 🎥 Product Development 🍓 Purendure, shared an online talk on their process of developing their new and novel product - a fruit puree gel alternative for endurance athletes. They guided the students through the concept of the product, how they developed the idea and how they secured a manufacturer to deliver their product at the standard required for athletes to enjoy. 🌟 This mix of creativity, science, and innovation is what Food Science is all about—empowering students to reimagine food and its role in our lives. Last week, we were able to listen to Scott Pountney, Jon Hancock, Claire Howarth and Chloe C. discuss their positions in Ticketmaster UK and their journey in the industry. Along with Dan Lomax, they discussed the process leading up to events and the onsite process for different types of events on different scales. They also dove into how they handle ticket scams and the type of software they use to handle the vast amount of people trying to buy tickets. Here is an example of Ayesha Zainab from our member, UK Centre for Events Management (UKCEM), Leeds Beckett University who took to the stage at a recent The Delegate Wranglers® event to share her thoughts on the future of the events industry.

Had an amazing opportunity to give a talk on enhancing female participation in resistance training during midlife and beyond. I shared insights from my recent scoping review and proposed plan for using the findings for the next project. Great day yesterday presenting a workshop at the Sport Wales Practitioner Talent Development Day at the the Sport Wales National Centre alongside former college and friend Barnaby Sargent Megicks Title of our presentation: "Towards a More Holistic Approach to Talent Development: Leveraging Your Role in the Environment and Navigating Youth Athlete Demands" Also great to hear and learn from Kristoffer Henriksen presenting on optimising talent development environments. In addition to hearing about an exciting and initiative nutrition/holistic based project within Welsh Triathlon, from pathway head coach Vicky Johnston.
