Regular physical activity is one of the best things you can do for your health, but it is easy to sit for longer than you should. It is recommended that adults get around 150 minutes of moderate physical activity a week and activities to strengthen your muscle twice a week. Children aged 6-17 are recommended to do an hour’s physical activity a day. Physical activity has many benefits for everyone such as: • Helps you feel and function better. • Improves sleep, energy levels and focus. • Helps prevent diseases such as heart and blood vessel disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes. • Works immediately to reduce anxiety depression and blood pressure. • Helps reduce the risk of falls in older people. • Reduces the risk of dementia, improves cognition, or your ability to learn, remember and think. • Helps bone health in young children. • Helps brain function in older children. Getting active doesn’t necessarily mean going to the gym every day, anything that gets your heart rate going, for example carrying in the shopping or taking the stairs instead of the lift. Ways to help you get active: • Use a wearable device or phone app to track your progress • Join a group or buddy up with a friend to make it more sociable. • Schedule your exercises at the time of day you have most energy. Find what works best for you and your lifestyle and work that into your everyday life. #wellbeingwednesday #physicalwellbeing #chtcommunity #fostercare #fostering #KeepThePromise #GPTWCertified #familybasedcare #WellbeingWednesday

During our “Silencing the Inner Critic: Building Confidence and Cultivating Self-Compassion” training on Tuesday, we discussed how to reframe our automatic negative thoughts and shared some tools to help build confidence and techniques to cultivate self-compassion. Attendees were reminded of the wealth of tailored resources we have available from Get Set Yeti on these topics for adults and our young people. If anyone has any queries about accessing the CHT pages or about the tools and resources, please get in touch with Charlene. #growthmindset #growthmindsetfriday #chtcommunity #GPTWCertified #fostercare #familybasedcare #Fostering #KeepThePromise

Building muscle is for more than making you stronger, it keeps your bones healthy and helps the way your body processes food to help prevent diabetes and other health related diseases. It is recommended that children and teens do muscle strengthening activities at least 3 days a week. Adults should train the main muscle groups at least 2 days a week to maintain strength which is essential for healthy aging as loss of muscle due to age can limit people’s ability to function at home and live independently. It has been shown that weight training is not just good for your physical health but is also great for your mental health helping reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression and PTSD in both woman and men. There are many ways to get started such as booking a few sessions with a personal trainer or joining a group to make it more sociable. Whatever way you choose, start slowly and gradually build it up to what feels best for you. #WellbeingWednesday #PhysicalWellbeing #Muscle #Strength #Fitness #CHTCommunity #KeepThePromise #FamilyBasedCare #FosterCare #Fostering

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week, with the theme “know yourself, grow yourself”. Place2Be and the Art Room have shared a short activity which encourages children to learn more about themselves by imagining a plant in growth. It starts off by inviting children to reflect on the roots of their identity, what is important to them, and what helps them grow. They will then think about what is growing from these roots, as with greater understanding of oneself also comes an increased capacity for personal growth, resilience, and connection with others. You can access the activity at: https://lnkd.in/ecEJPpUH CBBC’s Art Ninja Ricky Martin talks through the activity in this video: https://lnkd.in/eT8ajccQ For additional resources and activities, please visit https://lnkd.in/dfasKKd #childrensmentalhealthweek2025 #wellbeingwednesday #chtcommunity #familybasedcare #keepthepromise #fostering #fostercare
