Wales is number two in the world for recycling, and last week we launched the latest #BeMightyRecycle campaign with our client WRAP Cymru to inspire people in Wales to get them to become the world's best recycling nation.
Our focus for this burst of activity was to get young people in Wales to realise the impact they could make by recycling their food waste. WRAP's data showed that young people's food waste recycling rates remain below the national adult average of 80%, but have risen significantly in the last year (from 59% in 2023 to 74% in 2024). This shows us that harnessing this momentum in recycling could be the key to getting Wales to the top spot in the world recycling table.
We partnered with Cardiff Metropolitan University to host a Supper Club with students, hosted by our campaign ambassador Matt Pritchard, to help show how easy it is to use up commonly wasted foods in simple recipes, as well as how to recycle the food that can't be eaten properly.
Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd TV were our key target for this work, so we could speak directly to students through their peers, and the team came to capture content at the Supper Club. We also secured nationwide coverage, with ITV Wales coming to dinner too, ensuring we ticked off broadcasting and narrowcasting to hit our audience and those they’re in contact with. S4C and Newyddion arlein covered the story for Welsh audiences, and our amazing client Angela Spiteri featured on BBC Radio Wales 'Advice Hour' show to talk all things recycling.
