Caversham Writers is a group for anyone interested in writing and meeting other writers in the Caversham and wider Berkshire area. For our online meetings, we also welcome members globally. We were founded in 2018 by Canadian author Crystal Bourque with an ethos that we still maintain today: "If you write, you're a writer." All skill levels are welcome - published or unpublished, aspiring authors or enthusiastic hobbyists. We have members that write in all genres, so whether you write fiction or non-fiction, poetry or prose, fantasy or reality, you will fit right in. We currently hold meetings in 4 different formats: > Writing Meetings. In which we'll either work on (or start) any writing project of our own choosing, or we'll set a theme or prompt for all to use as a starting point. > Feedback Meetings. In which we'll provide feedback on excerpts of members work, either submitted in advance or read out to the group on the night. Feedback should be constructive, encouraging, and tailored to the author's directed instruction. > Author Events. In which published authors come along to talk to the group. We have a Q & A with them about their writing process and path to publication. > Writes & Bites. In which we meet for a social evening, usually at a local restaurant. No writing involved in these events, they are an opportunity to get to know each other better and, of course, to discuss all things writing. We also have occasional one off special events, such as literary festival talks, book signings, launch parties.

So unlike most of you on this grey Saturday morning I was up early once again and on a train to a Coventry to give a book talk at Coventry Central Library, and I didn't even get through all of my script, because everyone had a story to share. My lovely audience shared their experiences of sending photos to the wrong chat, being scared to leave an exercise group chat even though they don't attend that class anymore, having to be in too many family group chats, keeping in touch with family abroad and how they view their teenage childrens' relationships with their phones. And there was 11-year old Cooper who doesn't have a smartphone yet but can't wait to start high school so that he can get a phone like many of his friends. This just goes to show how complex our relationships with technology are, but one thing is for sure, we could all benefit from balancing our smartphone use and understanding them better. To understand more about smartphone use, pick up a copy of How to Leave a Group Chat today - and if you want to order a copy from my local bookshop Fourbears I will go over and sign your book too: https://lnkd.in/eHQTByt5

Yesterday evening, Amazon informed Bloomsbury that they would no longer sell Bloomsbury print books in the UK, Europe, and Australia, or Bloomsbury ebooks worldwide from midnight. We have been in discussions with Amazon over terms since last summer. At no point during these discussions did Amazon say that they would take such action. We learned about this at the same time that Amazon issued a public statement and was contacting Bloomsbury authors and agents. We have now reached agreement with Amazon in order to ensure the continued availability of our titles on Amazon.
