The operating system for the world's carbon border taxes.

About us

CBAMBOO builds the operating system for the world’s carbon border taxes. Our flagship product, the CBAMBOO Platform, is the best way for firms to comply with the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, a regulation that changes the game for how global industry must tackle the climate crisis. Both EU-based importers and non-EU suppliers can use the CBAMBOO Platform to generate CBAM-compliant carbon data, document their analysis, share mandatory information securely, produce required reports and map their future tax exposure. CBAMBOO’s long-term goal is to help firms navigate product-level carbon prices, signals that will dictate the future of global trade. The CBAMBOO Platform will give decision-makers the tools they need to tackle their supply chain emissions and thereby accelerate the decarbonisation of industry. Today we are thrilled to launch the CBAMBOO Platform, the purpose-built solution for CBAM compliance! Starting today, #CBAM rules get tough – default values can no longer be used. Importers of CBAM goods must gather real emissions data from their supply chains. Typically, that means asking suppliers to complete arduous spreadsheets that can't be edited once they've been sent out. Not good. The CBAMBOO Platform: – scraps the spreadsheets – offers a simple way to gather data – and your whole supply chain can use it. With CBAMBOO, you can report CBAM in minutes, not weeks. Thailand's Treasury chief, Ekniti Nitithanprapas, affirms that a carbon tax is not a matter of "if" but "when." Speaking at the "Generating a Cleaner Future" forum, he highlighted Thailand's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2065, with a 30-40% emission reduction target by 2030. A carbon tax is pivotal in turning these pledges into action. The EU’s CBAM policy is driving a transformative shift in export dynamics, aligning with Thailand's proposed carbon tax framework to foster low-carbon innovation and create a fairer global marketplace. 🌍 CBAM: Demystifying the buzz at COP29 🌍 CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) is a hot topic at COP29 in Baku, yet many are unclear about its depth and implications. Let’s break it down. 🤔 What is CBAM? The world's first CBAM was introduced by the EU in 2023. It serves two main purposes: Fair Competition: CBAM levels the playing field between EU manufacturers who are subject to carbon pricing through the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), and importers of carbon-intense goods. Decarbonisation: By taxing carbon emissions, CBAM encourages other regions to adopt similar laws to align with global climate goals. 🛠️ Implementation of CBAM Transitional Period (4Q23-2Q24): companies can use default emission values. No taxes apply. Transitional Period (3Q24-4Q25): companies must report actual emissions values as much as possible. No taxes apply. Definitive Period (1Q26 onwards): based on emissions values, carbon taxes apply above a benchmark level, and are phased in over a nine-year period to 2034. 🎯 Scope of CBAM The EU has included iron & steel, aluminium, cement, fertilisers, electricity and hydrogen. Other emission-intensive goods will be considered for addition to CBAM. The UK plans an equivalent CBAM regime, to be introduced in 2027, covering the same sectors with the exception of electricity. ⚖️ Compliance is Crucial According to the European Commission, data submitted must be accurate and (from 2026) verified. Incorrect or incomplete data could lead to hefty potential fines, and declarants that are non-compliant risk losing their right to import CBAM goods. If your company is impacted by CBAM and needs help navigating these challenges, CBAMBOO can help. Whether you're an EU importer or a supplier, CBAMBOO is here to simplify your CBAM compliance. Debates on CBAM started to get heated at COP29 Azerbaijan this week after Brazil, South Africa, India and China pushed to add CBAM to the agenda. The United Nations had not included CBAM as an official COP agenda, with the EU arguing for it to be addressed at the World Trade Organization instead. But that was met with pushback from delegates from developing nations. The COP29 presidency eventually decided that CBAM would not be part of an official agenda, but will be addressed informally at the summit. European aluminium is at a critical juncture as it faces taxes under EU CBAM in 2026, S&P Global's Jacqueline Holman writes here. Industry leaders like Emanuele Manigrassi from EUROPEAN ALUMINIUM and Guillaume de GOYS of Aluminium Dunkerque shared both their concerns and optimism regarding this transformative policy. Challenges remain significant: European producers are grappling with soaring electricity costs, which are up to three times higher than those faced by non-EU smelters. This has already led to a reduction of around 1.18 million tons in capacity since 2021. However, there’s a silver lining. CBAM is designed to level the playing field by taxing high-carbon imports, discouraging carbon leakage, and creating a market advantage for low-carbon products, which EU producers specialise in. As Emanuele Manigrassi noted, this mechanism, if implemented thoughtfully, could encourage investments in innovative, green technologies and enhance the competitiveness of EU producers. At CBAMBOO, we believe in simplifying complex regulatory requirements to drive sustainable practices across industries. Our mission is to empower companies to meet their CBAM obligations effortlessly, accelerating global decarbonisation and fostering a greener future.
