📣 New Marine Science blog! The IUCN Red List has recently released its latest assessment on the health of 892 coral reef species - one of the most comprehensive to date. Last October, Cefas scientists, Benjamin Coburn, Jo Bluemel and Elena Couce joined an expert panel of 20 coral reef scientists at a workshop hosted by the IUCN SSC Coral Specialist Group in Singapore to provide #advice and #evidence to assess the vulnerability of over 400 coral species from the Indo-Pacific region. 🌊 🐟 In this blog, they, along with Michelle-Devlin, discuss the work and many hours involved in contributing to this globally important assessment. 📋 ▶️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/e7VpY4Zf The Red List aims to provide policymakers and conservationists with the latest information on status of coral reef species to help guide conservation efforts and interventions.

Not long left to apply for these workshops!

ERC are working with Wild Pear CIC on a project for Cefas to demonstrate how arts-based approaches can be used to assess Cultural Ecosystem Services (CES) and how these can best be combined with economic data and communicated to decision makers. The work falls under the marine Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (mNCEA) programme funded by Defra and will contribute to the UK government’s policy and decision making for marine and coastal environments.   The work is focused on the East Inshore Marine area and on two main areas of work in particular. 1. Applying an arts-based data collection method to assess the benefits provided by cultural ecosystem services in the East Inshore Marine Plan area 2. Determining how best to embed Cultural Ecosystem Services and their value into marine decision-making   To inform this project, working with Wild Pear CIC, we have designed and planned four art workshops that are taking place at the end of November in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft. We have invited residents along the coast to these workshops which will: - Explore the techniques of hand crafted photo montage - Support attendees to express their personal connection to the coast - Ask attendees to reflect on their artwork through a short 1-2-1 conversation - Ask for feedback on what attendees thought of the event   If you are interested in attending a workshop, you can book a place via the eventbrite links on our website, here: https://lnkd.in/e2KSxGcP
